Job Description

Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.



Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.


Position Overview:





We are currently seeking applications from qualified candidates to join a research project focused on enhancing infectious disease transmission models by incorporating behavioral fatigue, a key factor influencing long-term adherence to public health interventions. The aim of the study is to develop and apply advanced modeling techniques that more accurately reflect real-world behavioral dynamics during epidemics and pandemics.



Additional Information:


This position is open to all qualified candidates; however, preference will be given to individuals with prior experience in infectious disease modeling and a demonstrated ability to work independently within a research environment. Duties:




Contribute to the development of mathematical and statistical models incorporating behavioral fatigue. Analyze and interpret data related to infectious disease dynamics. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary research team and contribute to scholarly publications. Support dissemination of findings through conferences and scientific journals.

Qualifications:




A completed Master's degree (or higher) in biostatistics, epidemiology, computational statistics, or a closely related field is preferred. Demonstrated expertise in infectious disease modeling, including familiarity with compartmental, agent-based, or network-based models is preferred. A publication record in peer-reviewed journals, thesis or reports relevant to epidemiology, infectious diseases, or statistical modeling is preferred. Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for scientific computing, particularly R, Python, or Julia. Experience working with real-world epidemiological data and computational methods for parameter estimation, simulation, and model validation.
