The George Hull Centre is a leading Children's Mental Health Centre providing a full continuum of services to children from birth to 18 and their families in West Toronto. Within the Centre, the Institute of Childhood Trauma and Attachment was established in September 2019 to promote well-being and reduce suffering of children, youth, and families who have experienced trauma and attachment disruptions by enhancing how systems provide care through the integration of best practice, research, and training.
Over the last few years, the Centre has engaged in innovative and exciting work designing, implementing, and researching initiatives related to both trauma-informed and trauma-specific care. With several projects up and running, and others in various stages of development, we are currently seeking a Senior Research Associate to support the Institute's Research Pillar is expanding and enhancing our current roster of active projects. This will include helping to lead an implementation and feasibility study and subsequent randomized controlled trial delivering Neurofeedback to children in public-sector mental health services, among other projects.
The successful candidate will join a growing research team and will both engage in, and oversee, a wide variety of research-related work such as study design and proposal development, data processing, verification, and analysis, project management, writing and knowledge translation and dissemination initiatives and activities. We are looking to add to the research expertise within the Institute so previous related research experience will be prioritized. This position requires excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to work effectively and strategically with various professionals, programs, and partners.
Duties may include but not limited to:
Contribute to the planning, design, and management of research initiatives in alignment with leadership direction
Oversee and/or conducts data collection, analysis, and dissemination of research findings
Project manage/coordinate research project progress and provide updates to teams while identifying and resolving issues
Build and maintain effective internal relationships and cross-departmental collaboration within the Centre, as well external partnerships
Identify funding opportunities and supports the preparation and submission of grant applications, conference abstracts, and publications
Maintain accurate and confidential research databases in accordance with institutional and legal standards and regulations
Identify new research opportunities and partners that align with the Institute's mission and strategic priorities
Provide scientific consultation and support to internal teams and external partners
Participate in relevant special projects and committees including ethics review and other institutional or partner groups
Engage in professional development to stay current with research best practices
Qualifications:
An advanced degree (PhD preferred) from a recognized post-secondary institution in a health and social services-related discipline
Expertise with statistical packages to conduct basic analyses (e.g., SPSS)
Minimum three years of experience designing and coordinating research studies
Experience with clinical research and randomized controlled trials, an asset
Knowledge of childhood trauma and/or mental health, an asset
Good publication record in peer-reviewed academic journals
Proven successful project management, time-management, and problem-solving skills
Exemplary organizational and analytical skills
Strong interpersonal, self-reflection, and self-awareness skills
Dedication to anti-Black racism and anti-racism learning, awareness, and action
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including scientific writing skills and the ability to translate scientific content clearly and creatively to different audiences
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), research/survey software (e.g. REDCap), and statistical packages to conduct analyses is essential (e.g. SPSS)
Ability to work in an evolving team environment
Ability to exercise initiative with good judgment and tact
