As a Senior Radiation Technologist, your work helps safeguard Ontario's environment and communities by ensuring accurate radiochemical analysis in support of nuclear safety and emergency response. Your expertise directly contributes to public health, environmental protection, and the province's readiness for critical events.

About the job

In this role you will:

Conduct highly complex radiochemical analysis, routine analysis, and/or specialty analysis/testing involved in the preparation and analysis of environmental samples in a variety of sample media in support of the Ontario Reactor Surveillance Program, the Provincial Nuclear Emergency Response Plan and during emergencies. Implement new/improved methods for the preparation, analysis and/or reporting of samples analysis for a variety of parameters. Lead the evaluation and interpretation of highly complex data including performing sample preparation, sample analysis and reporting.


What We Do



The Ministry of Labour, Training, Immigration and Skills Development (MLITSD), Radiation Protection Services conducts radiological monitoring of the environment to measure routine, unplanned, unannounced and emergency emissions from nuclear plants and to assess their potential impact on the public. Samples of drinking water, air, milk, foodstuff, and water are collected and measured routinely in the environs of nuclear stations in Ontario and those bordering the province.

Mandatory requirements



The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's license upon being hired.

Technical Knowledge:



You have knowledge of chemistry, radiochemistry, algebra, calculus and statistics to perform tests, set up and operate equipment, analyze samples and ensure quality results. You have knowledge of laboratory testing standards relevant to the area of laboratory responsibility. You have knowledge of laboratory quality control systems and procedures. You have knowledge of quality control and assurance principles and systems. You have knowledge of sampling methods and preservation procedures.

Analytical Skills:



You have analytical and evaluative skills to assess laboratory testing results and resolve issues. You have research and analysis skills to interpret complex results, conduct investigations and apply appropriate statistical analysis techniques. You can ensure testing is carried out in accordance with governing specifications, policies and consistency.

Communication Skills:



You have oral communication skills to instruct and guide staff, provide training and technical direction. You have written communication skills to record data and test findings. You can communicate technical information to individuals who may not have the same level expertise.

Leadership, Project Management and Organizational Skills:



You can provide advice and guidance to staff. You have project management skills to ensure projects are successfully completed on time. You have organizational skills to coordinate multiple tasks running simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
