As a result, our people get to work on some of the most exciting projects in the world.Who are you?You are either an experienced Quantity Surveyor with 10 + years post-graduate experience or a growing intermediate individual with between 3-8 years of experience looking for the next step or have undertaken a similar role in a similar environment.Based in Edmonton and the surrounding area Turner & Townsend are looking for Quantity Surveyors/Project Controls Specialists. The individual would become an integral part of the site team reporting on various project across these projects. Knowledge of the Oil & Gas industry would be advantageous however, other Natural Resources experience would also be considered beneficial.Duties:The role involves supporting projects under the QS Team Lead, with expertise in construction progress and performance measurement. The candidate should have knowledge of the heavy construction industry and experience in progress measurement, and quantity validation. They will provide advice on the construction process, focusing on risk and opportunity management, and will collaborate with various project groups. Ideally, the candidate will be a Quantity Surveyor, but Estimators and Construction Managers with experience in large, complex projects are also considered.Key Accountabilities:

  • Performs site physical progress measurement, including verification and validation of quantities.
  • Prepares and submits interim valuations.
  • Manages, evaluates, and certifies variations/change orders.
  • Identifies potential risks and evaluates option for control.
  • Completes internal and external reporting throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Works closely with field staff and contractors.
  • Streamlines the progress measurement process on site.
  • Establishes Rules of Credit for each sub-component.
  • Develops progress reporting systems.
  • Administers and co-ordinates all types of construction and development projects, including contracts and sub-contracts, construction progress schedules, cost control systems, and work measurements.
  • Provides advice on construction cost and strategic planning to management and other project stakeholders.
  • Interprets tender documents, specifications, general conditions, and other areas of the contract and forms of contracts.
  • Prepares and submits estimates for construction and development work.
  • Researches, negotiates, and supports dispute resolution activities.
  • Understands and provides input to the engineering and commercial aspects of multiple sub projects.
  • Provides advice on contractual claims and negotiations.
  • Monitors contract compliance against requirements.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or Business Administration.
  • PQS (Professional Quantity Surveyor) designation is preferred, or the willingness and ability to obtain the same; Active member of CIQS (Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveying) or RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors).
  • Degree in Engineering such as Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 to 8 years of progressive experience in large capital project management, including hands-on involvement in major infrastructure projects, ideally in a Quantity Surveying, Estimating, or Construction Management role, or 10+ years in a senior role.
  • Preferred experience in Database Management.
  • Conversant with the planning and design of equipment/material procurement and construction processes required to deliver major capital projects.
  • Expert knowledge of construction costs and contracts.
  • Strong business and market acumen related to the construction industry.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Inspires trust in challenging situations, navigating ambiguity adeptly.
Required Skills:
  • Ability to understand multi-discipline design concepts from construction drawings.
  • Ability to promote effective communication within a multi-discipline team (safety, environmental, regulatory, geotechnical, civil-structural, electrical, and mechanical).
  • Computer proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and SharePoint.
  • Experience at the site would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with Scheduling Software (P6, Microsoft Project), BIM, Revit, or other 3D Visualization Software would be an asset.
  • Prior field project management or construction experience.
  • Previous experience with Earned Value Management would be an asset.
  • Strong data collection and analytical skills.
