Cam Tran is an ISO-9001 certified company specializing in manufacturing, repair and renewal of all types of oil filled distribution transformers.
CMI acquired Canada's Cam Tran in 2024, the largest Canadian manufacturer of distribution transformers and the largest North American producer of amorphous metal transformers. This formed one of the largest distribution transformer manufacturing operations on the continent, which together employs around twelve hundred people across twelve facilities. As a combined company, CMI and Cam Tran continue to operate under the separate brands but leverage the capacity across the manufacturing footprint to support each company's increasing product demand.
Job Summary:
Lead the Quality Assurance function to ensure that all products, processes, and systems meet customer, regulatory, and industry requirements and quality objectives. This role will design and supervise the implementation of the corporate Quality Management System (QMS), drive continuous improvement, lead problem-solving initiatives, and collaborate with a team of quality engineers and specialists across multiple sites to achieve zero-defect manufacturing.
Responsible for ensuring compliance in the following areas:
Assist and support the Test Technicians' daily transformer testing/inspections and monitoring activities.
Review test reports and guide Test Technicians as required.
Lead Test technicians on how to use the Transformer Test Equipment and analyze the test reports.
Lead on the Test Equipment footprint development and upgrade it based on the capacity/capability.
Key player in developing test plans/type tests and conducting the tests with the Engineering Team.
Liaise with Operations and provide support with the communication of quality control issues.
Meet regularly with all teams; participate in weekly Huddles, LOS, Financial reviews, and the monthly QMR.
Adhere to and enforce Cam Tran Safety policies and procedures.
Support NCR creation and the implementation of corrective actions.
Perform transformer failure teardowns and root cause analysis for in-house failures/warranty returns
Support and participate in Quality departmental initiatives as assigned by the Quality senior leaders.
Quality Management Systems (QMS):
Maintain and support compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and customer-specific requirements.
Assist in internal and external audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively.
Prepare and update policies, procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, FMEA, and control plans.
Manage QMS document information and ensure the latest revisions, approvals, and an effective documented information process.
Product & Process Quality:
Support Engineering activities during new product launches & Engineering Changes.
Monitor Processes and measurement devices, calibration, etc., and provide data for process capability.
Partner with Operations/Production to ensure process controls
Conduct process audits and shop floor quality controls.
Maintain calibration records of measurement equipment.
Validate first article/first off inspections (FAI) and sample approvals.

Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement:
Lead 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa), and other structured problem-solving methods for internal and customer concerns.
Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate root causes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Production, Supply Chain) to drive Lean and Six Sigma initiatives
Review, monitor, and audit issued NCRs for effective resolution and correctness.
Customer & Supplier Quality:
Act as a key contact for customer and supplier quality issues (complaints, warranty returns, audit findings, supplier issues).
Promote a customer-first culture across all sites
Represent the company in customer visits, reviews, and negotiations related to quality.
Manage supplier quality performance, incoming inspection standards, supplier development, and supplier corrective actions.
Manage supplier quality performance, including incoming quality, audits, and SCARs (Supplier Corrective Action Requests).
Support supplier development and qualification programs.
Track and report Customer PPM / Supplier PPM metrics and supplier Scorecards.
Documentation, Data Analytics, & Reporting:
Lead quality performance reports (scrap, rework, defect trends, KPI dashboards, all Quality Metrics).
Manage data gathering and analysis to support all CI initiatives, decision-making processes, and QMS monitoring
Continuous Improvement
Lead initiatives to reduce scrap, rework, and PPM levels.
Champion Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma projects within quality and operations.
Implement best practices and lessons learned across production lines.
