Senior Project Manager (ASR Administrative Networks)

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide project management expertise to ensure initiatives are implemented and successfully executed. Primary focus is to support the Administrative Network project. Working closely with campus partners from inception through to completion ensuring projects are developed, designed, and delivered to meet or exceed campus client expectations in regard to functionality, schedule and budget.

NATURE OF WORK:
Reporting to the Director, Shared Services, this position works in a high-volume, complex, and dynamic environment of shifting priorities and continual deadlines. The Senior Project Manager is required to build and maintain positive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure a collaborative problem-solving environment. The Senior Project Manager will support the overarching administrative services renewal initiative and will lead activities that engage multiple unit level executives and staff in focused design elements, including case for change, future state vision, current state/leverage and barrier points, process enhancement work assessment, options for restructuring, redesign of business processes.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and delegation to carry large projects through to completion ensuring efficiency and timely implementation.
  • In collaboration with the project and leadership teams, conduct environmental scans, prepare current and future state maps, document policy/process recommendations for change, and draft and coordinate implementation of project plans.
  • Apply project management methodology, knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques toward projects to meet objectives.
  • Effectively communicate project goals, scope and expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and review project deliverables.
  • Collect and archive documentation.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to understand current realities, design future state, build commitment and ensure project plans incorporate important perspectives.
  • Develop realistic schedule and holds primary responsibility for all aspects of adhering to the project schedule.
  • Manage project budget from development through to completion including appropriate change orders and clear communication with clients.
  • Develop the overall project risk strategy to which appropriate university risk tolerance is applied.
  • Provide timely and innovative responses to project problems as they arise, initiate actions required to achieve success, monitor progress between meetings, and assess progress, and develop and implement decisions and actions quickly.
  • Manage project budget from development through to completion including appropriate change orders and clear communication with clients.
  • Develop realistic schedule and holds primary responsibility for all aspects of adhering to the project schedule.
  • Develop the overall project risk strategy to which appropriate university risk tolerance is applied.
  • The Project Manager must have the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and effectively address resistance to change.
  • The individual must exercise sound judgment, be comfortable in a team environment, and have well developed communication and project management skills.

  • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A relevant university degree with specialization in business administration. Designation as a Project Management Professional (PMP) would be considered an asset.

Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in project and relationship management, including preparation of budgets, schedules, and contract documents. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Leading teams and/or projects in post-secondary setting and in a shared services model will be considered an asset.

Skills:

Demonstrated strong and effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills both written and verbal.

Demonstrated ability to handle responsibility and authority to make decisions.

Strong problem solving and conflict management, analytical and negotiating skills.

A working knowledge of provincial statutes, regulations, codes and legislation that relate to the job.

The ability to lead, instruct, implement, and guide a team from project inception through to completion.

The ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple and concurrent priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Project is required.

Knowledge of and experience with university policies, priorities and goals would be an asset.

Knowledge and understanding of issues, including cultural, socio-economic and other factors affecting Indigenous Peoples and an awareness that Indigenous engagement is a strategic priority at the University.

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $83,468.00 - 139,027.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
