The Coffee Mine Project ("Coffee") is a proposed hard-rock gold mine. Coffee will be a premier, high-grade, open pit heap leach gold mine project, built to world class standards, located in Canada's Yukon Territory. Senior Project Geologist - Coffee Project

The Senior Project Geologist will be a fully licensed and qualified registered professional geoscientist who will support overseeing and coordinating exploration strategies, processes and targets while ensuring Global Standards and Guidance documents are adhered to. The successful candidate will demonstrate high levels of safety and environmental awareness by following all government and company regulations and policies, cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, and will lead a team of technical and non-technical staff during field season.

Essential Duties

  • Develop an exploration deliverables schedule in accordance with the overall project schedule and monitor progress against plans
  • Accountable for the quality of all geologic data
  • Track budgets and approve invoices
  • Plan logistics for exploration activities, including supply chains, inventory levels and geological samples
  • Oversee and coordinate mapping, drilling, and sampling program operations
  • Supervise and/or provide inputs to drill programs (e.g. logging of geological and spatial data, definition of ore boundaries, day-to-day supervision of drilling contractors and field assistants)
  • Supervise field sampling crew to ensure quality of sampling methods, and timely dispatch of samples
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and/or prepare sample submissions to assay laboratories and track and receive results
  • Monitor resource estimates and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory, , confidentiality and other policies and procedures
  • Prepare and/or validate technical reports, geological maps and other documentation of results and recommendations for use by Mining, Engineering and management personnel
  • Recommend updates or changes to geological and mineral systems models and processes to improve quality and efficiency, and ensure modifications are consistently implemented and documented
  • Collaborate and provide inputs to the Engineering/Geology/Construction/Environmental and other relevant departments to coordinate exploration processes on site (e.g. drill program planning, data analysis, reconciliation, geologic modeling, various estimation scenarios etc.)
  • Liaise with management and other departments to provide geological support for collaborative projects (e.g. geometallurgy) and expertise to a collaborative regional generative team
  • Set expectations, conduct performance reviews and provide feedback and training in accordance with the current and future needs of the project, to manage performance of direct reports within the site

  • Support in the recruitment and selection of exploration project employees and contractors as required in order to execute activities successfully
  • Provide training and growth opportunities to challenge team members while accomplishing site and corporate objectives
  • Oversee time entry, vacation requests, scheduling and other administrative tasks as required, to ensure the smooth functioning of exploration operations
  • Supervise day-to-day drilling, sampling and reporting exploration activities, liaising across multiple departments and supervising geological and field teams with special regard to Safety, Environmental, and First Nation heritage

Requirements
  • Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or other related field; Post-graduate degree in similar fields an asset
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a P. Geo
  • 5 years of relevant experience, including exposure to underground/open pit mining environments
  • 3 years of leadership experience
Skills and Experience
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of mapping, spatial analysis and database management software, and remote sensing equipment
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS and Leapfrog software packages
  • Working knowledge of gold exploration techniques, drill planning for resource development, geophysics interpretation, structural geology
  • Resource estimation and geostatistics knowledge an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, core geologic skills, and a background in one or all of: structural geology, geochemistry, igneous geology, metamorphic geology, geological mapping
  • Must be able to hold/operate a phone and radio with sufficient voice and hearing to communicate. Must be able to drive a 4x4 vehicle and occasionally operate an all-terrain vehicle. Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds of equipment and/or samples for distances of up to 8 kilometers. Must be able to load and unload core boxes weighing up to 50 pounds onto logging tables.
Working Conditions

This position is a field-based in Yukon Territory, Canada. During the field season this will be a fly-in/fly-out position based at the Coffee Project site; the rotational schedule will be two weeks in/two weeks out. Outside of the field season (depending on the project's needs) work will be based in Newmont's office in Whitehorse. Remote work while not on site may also be accepted.
