Job Description

Adams Lake Indian Band is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to work under the direction of the Adams Lake Band's Chief Financial Officer. The individual's main responsibilities will provide advanced financial oversight, leadership, and strategic support for complex capital, operational, and multi-year projects across the Adams Lake Indian Band. This role is responsible for high-level financial analysis, funding stewardship, contract compliance, variance investigation, and reporting to senior leadership. The Senior Project Accountant supports the development, improvement, and implementation of Nation-wide financial procedures, manuals, internal controls, and reporting frameworks.


This position acts as a key financial resource to managers, directors, and project leads, ensuring that project financials are accurate, timely, compliant with the Financial Administration Law (FAL) and ALIB Financial Policies, and aligned with organizational goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Financial Oversight & Project Management



Performs responsibilities in accordance with ALIB policies, procedures, and the Financial Administration Law. Provides senior-level expertise in project accounting, including complex funding agreements, multi-fund coding, capital projects, and restricted funding. Oversees and maintains project-related financial records including contracts, contribution agreements, budgets, change orders, and reporting schedules. Leads the establishment and monitoring of internal controls for assigned departments, programs, and projects. Supports directors/managers in developing project budgets and multi-year funding forecasts. Reviews, approves, and codes supplier invoices, ensuring compliance with funding agreements, contracts, and internal policies. Ensures all agreements are fully executed prior to project initiation.

Financial Analysis & Reporting



Conducts advanced variance analysis, identifies risks, and prepares variance explanations and recommendations for directors/managers. Prepares and presents project financial performance reports, including profitability, cost trends, burn rate, and remaining funding. Identifies opportunities for additional billings, funding extensions, or financial efficiencies. Ensures timely submission of project-related billings to customers, ministries, and external funders. Investigates and resolves outstanding billings and receivables with Finance staff. Monitors project cash flow and advises on budget pressures and commitments.

Compliance, Controls, and Audit



Ensures compliance with funding requirements, audits, reporting schedules, and contract/ministerial standards. Leads the preparation of pre-audit working papers related to project financials. Compiles supporting documentation for internal and external audits. Identifies gaps in processes and supports continuous improvement in accounting practices, documentation, and internal control systems.

Documentation, Training & Cross-Functional Support



Develops, updates, and maintains financial manuals, "book notes," procedures, and templates for use across departments. Provides mentorship, guidance, and cross-training to finance team members as assigned. Responds to internal and external inquiries, providing high-quality, detailed financial information. Participates in Finance team initiatives to strengthen Nation-wide financial literacy and accountability. Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS



Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent. Actively pursuing a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (preferred). Minimum 7-10 years progressive experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in project or fund accounting. Experience in First Nations funding agreements, capital projects, grants management, or multi-fund environments (asset). Demonstrated experience preparing complex financial analyses, forecasts, and reports for senior leadership. Advanced knowledge of project contracts, funding structures, contribution agreements, and reporting requirements. Strong working knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, internal controls, and audit preparation. High-level proficiency in Excel and financial systems; experience with Adagio and RBC PayEdge is considered an asset. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance staff. Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES




Supervision of a team of Project Accountants (in direct reporting relationship)

MS Office Suite - Word, Outlook, Excel.

Additional financial reporting tools as required.

BONA FIDE JOB REQUIREMENTS




Current Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector clearance, with results acceptable to ALIB.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:




Full time permanent position


Wage offered will range between $90,000-$110,000 based on the individuals level of education and relevant experience.


Location: 6453 Hillcrest Rd, Chase, B.C. - though hybrid work can be discussed.


Hours per week: 75 hours bi-weekly (max 37.5 hrs./week), with flexibility in hours/days of work.
