At SMS Equipment, the Senior Network Architect will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our voice, video, and network systems across the business. Reporting to the Manager, IT Infrastructure, you'll design, implement, and maintain unified communications and enterprise network solutions that keep our people collaborating seamlessly, wherever they are. You'll also serve as the go-to expert for vendor partnerships, evaluating new technologies, and supporting enterprise-wide initiatives with your insight and technical know-how.
Work Arrangement: Remote
Work Location: Montreal area (preferred) or remote within Quebec or the Maritimes.
Salary: $110,000 - $115,000 annually, plus individual incentive plan.
What you'll do:

  • Design and implement secure, scalable enterprise network solutions in collaboration with architects and key stakeholders.
  • Lead the administration and continuous improvement of LAN (wired and wireless) and global WAN infrastructure.
  • Configure, maintain, and support routers, switches, wireless controllers, access points, bridges, and edge security devices.
  • Deploy and manage Cisco technologies, including Catalyst Center, Identity Services Engine (ISE), and related systems.
  • Evaluate and optimize network resources to ensure compliance, performance, and efficiency.
  • Develop network roadmaps and forecast future infrastructure growth and technology upgrades.
  • Standardize and align network architecture with internal security and compliance frameworks.
  • Partner with Managed Services and Cloud providers on security, connectivity, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to projects involving enterprise networks, communications systems, cloud and security infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
What you bring:
The incumbent will have a minimum of 8 years of hands-on design and implementation experience working in a Cisco LAN and WAN network environment. Additional qualifications include:
  • Extensive knowledge with Cisco ISE, Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco routers and switches, wireless access points and controllers.
  • Cisco certifications are definite assets: CCNP routing and switching, CCNP Wireless, CCNP Security, and working toward CCIE.
  • Intermediate to expert network security experience with designing, deploying, securing, and managing LAN/WAN, VPN and Azure Cloud solutions, Cisco Umbrella
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Cisco LAN/WAN technologies including IPSEC, QoS, VPN Tunnels as well as Cisco ASA/FTDs and WLC's
  • Advanced understanding of DNS, DDNS, DHCP, HTTP, SFTP, SSH Knowledge of security concepts such as NAT/PAT, IPSEC, SSL, DDoS, IP Spoofing etc.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g Cisco ThousandEyes ) is a plus.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under pressure.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams to communicate and collaborate internally.
  • Organized, reliable, and an effective communicator.
