The De Beers Group of Companies has an exciting, full-time opportunity, for a motivated and energetic individual to join the Technical Services Team as a Senior Mine Planning Engineer. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the individual will manage, co-ordinate and control long range strategic planning, to ensure optimal recovery of mineral resources. The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe working practices and strives for zero harm.

This position is based at the De Beers Calgary Support Centre located at the Calgary International Airport and will require periodic travel to the Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 mine site.

The schedule is currently a hybrid style consisting of two days in the office and three days at home. This position offers comprehensive health and dental benefits, pension, long term incentives, vacation and flex days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop long-term mine plans that will maximize value, while being cognizant of safety, environmental, legal compliance and cost constraints, using sound mine engineering principles and standards;
  • Optimize the mine plans/designs aiming to improve ore extraction and balance waste stripping ratio with long-term mine planning objectives;
  • Compile and maintain the annual Strategic Business Plan;
  • Complete revisions of the open pit and waste rock dump designs as required;
  • Produce plans, budgets, forecasts and reports in a timely manner to ensure integration into short-term mine plans;
  • Promote, support and implement sound environmental and safety management practices in line with legislation and mine policies and procedures;
  • Manage technical studies and consultants related to optimization of the long -term plan.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Mine Engineering, or equivalent, with at least seven years\' of mine engineering experience;
  • Eligible for Professional Engineering registration in the Northwest Territories;
  • Preferred eligibility to sign off as the Competent Person on the annual Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Reserve;
  • Background in open pit optimization and data driven analysis;
  • Advanced knowledge of Deswik mine planning and scheduling software is highly preferred;
  • Advanced skills with open pit design;
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities with the required sense of urgency;
  • Excellent strategic thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and communicate with colleagues at all levels of the organization; and
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
