The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Projects team in Thompson, MB. This is a full-time position.

The Senior Engineer will provide innovative engineering design solutions to project, operating and maintenance problems, technical support to operating plants and mines, technical direction to external engineering consultants & construction contractors and technical guidance and mentoring to other members of the Central Engineering and Project teams. The engineer will focus on work of their own discipline; mechanical.

Additionally, in this position you will:

• Prepares engineering packages for operations, maintenance, and capital projects, utilizing good engineering practices and considering risk, while minimizing costs.
• Prepares accurate engineering design deliverables such as drawings, specifications, datasheets, scopes of work, risk assessments and cost estimates.
• Provides expert technical expertise/support to the entire business.
• Conducts field inspections and prepares reports.
• Translates operating requirements into optimum designs, prepares contract specifications and makes technically accurate and feasible recommendations.
• Provides technical support to the project, operations and maintenance teams to ensure reliable operation of equipment and recommendations for safety when required under relevant Acts and Legislation.
• Provides quality service that is based on looking beyond the customer\xe2\x80\x99s immediate needs, ensuring that the service best fits with the customer\xe2\x80\x99s overall goals.
• Supports the development of project budgets and schedules by providing expert knowledge and developing material take-offs based on engineering deliverables.
• Develops engineering services scopes of work for contract engineering work with external engineering consultants. Provides technical direction to external engineering consultants and reviews the quality and technical content of their engineering deliverables.
• Provides technical direction to construction contractors and assesses the quality of their work in the field.
• Visits job sites and maintains working relationships with design, operations, and maintenance personnel.
• Functions as the team leader/member to lead single discipline and multi-discipline engineering projects.
• Effectively schedules, prioritizes, and manages tasks to meet commitments with customers.

• Manages the work of other design personnel, when assigned, to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, codes and standards. Designs mechanical systems, including:

• Piping Systems
• Pumps
• Ventilation and Fans
• HVAC
• Material Handling Systems
• Dust Control
• Machine Design
• Fire Protection

About You

Education:

• Undergraduate degree.
• Peng, or equivalent recognized and eligible designation globally (P.Eng. of Manitoba is required)

Experience:

• Minimum 10-15 years of relevant experience

Skills:

• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain effective and engaging conversations and trust with to become integrated within the teams.
• Good initiative, attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a multidisciplinary environment
