Position Overview



As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be a crucial member of our team, contributing to your expertise in Mechanical design engineering, HVAC systems, and Building Condition Assessments (BCA). This role requires effective communication skills, P.Eng registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), and a commitment to delivering high-quality projects.

Roles and Responsibilities:



1.

Engineering Design

Mechanical Engineering Design experience and knowledge of Electrical and Structural Engineering; Demonstrate proficiency in HVAC design engineering, feasibility analysis, and energy modelling; Conduct on-site surveys to document existing conditions, including mechanical, electrical, and structural components, using AutoCAD for accurate representation; Conduct commercial & Multi-Residential Mechanical Systems Design, including HVAC, Plumbing and Sanitary, Storm, Fire Protection, and Sprinkler Systems; Conduct field visits and assist in feasibility studies, and create design criteria to meet the client's expectations; Read, understand, and apply Ontario building codes and CSA, ASHRAE, and NFPA standards; Create concepts and develop detailed designs, tender packages, and construction documents; Perform calculations and prepare reports, drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical proposals necessary to deliver a project; Assist in equipment sizing and selection, and ensure quality standards and project deadlines are met; Design building systems following the requirements of municipal or provincial building codes and other applicable standards. Develop layouts and design of mechanical building systems such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning, fire protection systems, plumbing and draining systems, and specialized plumbing systems (natural gas, fuel oil, medical gas, etc.). Coordinate with other disciples as required. Check layouts and services for continuity, developing various mechanical systems layouts in coordination with the structural, architectural, and electrical components of a building. Prepare calculations to size ductwork, gas, HVAC, piping, plumbing and drainage. Incorporate calculations into technical drawings; Prepare calculations to size equipment and prepare project-specific equipment schedules. Coordinate with the necessary project consultants to review equipment. Design mechanical building systems directly in Revit/CAD, adhering to company BIM/CAD standards; Work with clash/coordination reports, assisting with model audits and overall health of the model.

Project Management

Aid in problem-solving of issues within projects administered by Designers and Engineers; Manage multiple projects of varying size and complexity at the same time; Work in a stand-alone capacity; Create project-specific details to clarify project scope and create building sections to assist with interference coordination between building systems; Liaise with all project consultants; coordinate design requirements with all disciplines and supervise drawings between other disciplines, check layouts of mechanical services for interferences with other components of the building, such as structure, ceilings, etc. Liaise with suppliers and/or manufacturers for design support, equipment and component selection; Assist in construction administration by reviewing equipment shop drawings and conducting site visits, site reviews and preparing change notices, site instructions, etc. Provide specifications for proposed solutions, including zero-emission transition plans and technical scopes of work; Create implementation schedules and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Oversee projects to ensure compliance with health and safety, quality, and labour management standards; Act as a Project Manager or work closely with one, ensuring successful project delivery; Work collaboratively with colleagues, sharing insights and contributing to group discussions, meetings, and debriefs; Communicate with clients to understand master plans, strategic plans, and technology plans; Verify existing targets and implementation plans. Identify and address gaps in assessments; Any other tasks assigned by Principals or Project Managers.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:



5-7 years of experience in engineering design, specifically in HVAC design and Building Condition Assessment (BCA); P.Eng registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (required); Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (required); Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Projects), and CAD software; Experience with RETscreen, EnergyPlus, HAP, and Revit is an asset; Construction Engineering and Management (CEM); Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be beneficial, but not required; Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Additional Requirements:



Valid G driver's license; Ability to commute - will be required to go to sites for projects; Be able to fly across Canada for site visits, depending on the project.

Pay: $70,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
