To be part of a team to further develop and support the growth of Modern Niagara Engineering services. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our Design Build offering is a full-time permanent position, for the current engineering services of Modern Niagara nationally. We are seeking a strong candidate that will help Modern Niagara continue to position itself as an innovative industry leader as it relates to design and engineering innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delegates specific tasks to team members and manages project deliverables
  • Work with, train, mentor and help develop a team of junior Engineers
  • Provides engineering analysis to support sales and early design efforts.
  • Responsible for leading the system design, calculations and application selection of Plumbing, HVAC and Fire Protection systems
  • Responsible for the specification compliance of designs and ensures the mechanical design output fits in with all other aspects of the design
  • Ability to do selection of Mechanical, Hydronic & Refrigeration components
  • Responsible for preparing and presenting mechanical designs and specifications at design reviews
  • Take the technical lead on specific projects and agree to the technical approach with the Engineering Manager
  • Interact with Architects, consulting engineers, internal and external customers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams.
  • Manages team's workload to deliver assigned projects on time and in budget.
  • Follow departmental processes relating to management of designs
  • Develop unified national processes, standards, and procedures
  • Leverage new and existing technology to streamline designs
  • Review plans, bid documents, equipment schedules, specifications
  • Coordinates with internal design and construction teams.
  • Be responsible for promoting teamwork and good company morale.
  • Attends regular design meetings with customers and external stakeholders
  • Conduct yourself with the highest ethical standards
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
  • Licensed Mechanical Professional Engineer, preferably in several provinces
  • Proficient background in HVAC fundamentals and knowledge of HVAC systems for Commercial and Institutional buildings
  • Minimum 5+ years design related experience in HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection
  • This experience must include pursuit, compliance, and design in the P3 market focused on hospital and high-rise buildings
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a range of experience including, hospital, pharmaceutical and data center experience as well as industrial process
  • Extensive experience in coordinating with other disciplines (electrical, structural, architectural)
  • Experience with incremental technical and project leadership responsibilities
  • Project management experience including developing project plans and timelines, tracking project progress
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated and self-directed capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of equipment and labour costs
  • Willingness to travel
