Role Overview
As part of a 27-member engineering team comprising junior, intermediate, and senior engineers, you will be responsible for developing project-specific, custom-engineered solutions. This role calls for a seasoned engineer with strong CAD expertise and a track record in complex machinery design. Due to rapid growth, the team is adding a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who can work across design, production, and technical support functions.
Key Responsibilities
Translate customer specifications and RFQs into detailed designs and production-ready drawings.
Draft, review, and approve shop and production drawings, ensuring designs align with sold project requirements and budgets.
Collaborate closely with Project Managers, senior engineers, and business development teams to maintain design integrity and cost efficiency.
Provide technical input during proposal and estimation stages to mitigate risk and optimize product solutions.
Lead both modifications of standard products and new product development efforts for custom-engineered projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering.
10-15 years of proven experience in custom machinery design (e.g., bulk material handling systems, mining, and construction equipment).
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD 2D, and MS Office, with strong drafting and design skills.
Solid knowledge of algebraic calculations (weight, force, moment, statics, FBDs) and the ability to size components accurately.
Expertise in conceptualizing kinematic/dynamic solutions.
Experience integrating electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Strong understanding of welding symbols, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and fabrication drawings.
Experience with large-scale steel and aluminum machine design, including field installation or construction exposure.
Familiarity with ANSI/AISC 360 and Canadian structural standards (CSA-16, CSA S157), as well as AWS D1.1/D1.2 and CSA W47/59 welding requirements.
Ability to justify designs through hand calculations.
Fluency in English (verbal and written).
Preferred Attributes
P.Eng designation (strongly preferred).
Demonstrated expertise in FEA.
Strong communication skills for interfacing with clients and external partners
Must be able to travel to the US without restrictions.
