Working as a key member of the Finance team the role is accountable for the management of Treasury and Accounts Payable functions. The role has six direct reports to manage and develop.

The Purpose of the Role:

This position requires an experienced individual with demonstrated skills managing Accounts Payable and Treasury functions. Building strong relationships with all banking service providers is of utmost importance. Understanding the variety of services offered by banks and the underlying processes is necessary to succeed in this role. Proven ability to manage, motivate and develop staff is critical to success. The role reports to the VP Finance and the incumbent needs to be organizationally savvy as this role requires coordination across all organizational units.

  • Manage the Treasury relationships with various banks
  • Monitor compliance with the Signing Authority Policy and all associated processes
  • Manage the Payment Processing processes, including, participating in the development and maintenance of required technology solutions (Payment Processing Apps)
  • Create performance and development goals for all staff members and actively manage their performance while creating strong engagement within the team
  • Manage monthly accrual process ensuring a complete, accurate and timely close at month end
  • Review and approve account reconciliations prepared by team members and address all issues proactively
  • Maintain a strong control environment and respond to all audit requests on a timely basis
  • Manage and maintain operational metrics and use these to manage overall team effectiveness
  • Manage existing third-party loans including maintaining loan amortization schedules
What we are looking for\xe2\x80\xa6
  • Professional accountant (CA, CGA, CMA) with 5+ years of relevant business experience
  • Insurance industry experience would be an asset
  • An experienced Certified Treasury Professional with equivalent experience would also be considered
  • A university degree preferably with a Business/Finance focus
  • Five years of experience managing the Accounts Payable
  • Experience with an electronic employee expense system would be an asset
  • Experience managing Treasury related functions including relationship management - Knowledge of Royal Bank processes would be an asset
  • Experience managing staff in a finance operations role with demonstrated ability to create strong employee engagement - Staff development and coaching experience is required
  • Systems savvy and with a good understanding of how ERP payment and Payment Applications function (e.g., JDE AP, Cognos, Hyperion, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong initiative - be willing to step up to ensure the department meets its objectives
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to provide insightful, accurate and timely analysis
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Confident individual with the ability to express his/her ideas clearly to the team and management
  • Strong process skills (ability to break down and improve workflow) would be an asset
