SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Health & Safety manages and champions health and safety programs for assigned accounts, ensuring ongoing compliance to all internal and external requirements to assist assigned accounts in mitigating and managing health and safety-related risks and improving related performance.

In addition, the Senior Manager, H&S collaborates with the General Manager of the Account and manages the greater HS team to audit, develop and continuously improve the health and safety management system and associated tools, processes and procedures in accordance with applicable external management systems.

The Senior Manager, H&S will interface directly with senior clients and has management and reporting responsibilities as it relates to Account Key Performance Indicators and Contract requirements.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

People Leadership

Demonstrates strong, competent leadership for team members to guide them in reaching their full potential and meeting their objectives, which supports achievement of our corporate goals. Specifically, these responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Full involvement with recruiting talent
  • Provides mentoring, coaching and guidance to all team members
  • Objectively recommends compensation adjustments
  • Manages all aspects of performance
Program Management
  • Manages the health and safety programs and champions a high health and safety culture for all assigned accounts.
  • Provides guidance and support to team members on the assigned account relative to health and safety matters in accordance to all applicable internal and external requirements. Applies thorough knowledge of related regulations.
  • Leads the implementation of internal HS programs for the assigned account.
  • Plans, develops and delivers HS programs in support of the client for the assigned account.
  • Ensures compliance to client-mandated HS programs, ensuring all HS SLA\'s and KPI\'s are met for the assigned account.
  • Collaborates with account teams to ensure all team members are provided with adequate tools and resources to ensure the safe execution of work.
  • Collaborates and Coordinates program implementation and alignment across multiple campuses.
  • Reporting responsibilities and regular engagement with senior leadership within the client\'s organization.
  • Takes appropriate action to achieve all targeted HS objectives for the assigned account.
  • Oversees implementation on the account of all BGIS applicable health and safety management systems ensuring that internal audits are occurring as required and that appropriate measures have been taken to implement root cause analysis and action planning.
  • Provides ongoing training of HS practices and systems ensuring compliance by all team members.
Incident Investigation, Resolution & Reduction
  • Assists team in leading the investigation and resolution of incidents for the assigned account.
  • Oversees and conducts root-cause analysis, identifies incident causes, and implements corrective and preventative measures for the assigned account.
  • Oversees and tracks, records, maintains and reports HS incident data. Identifies and analyzes trends.
  • Reviews, recommends and implements modifications to work plans, processes, procedures to reduce recurring HS incidents and improve health and safety performance.
  • HSE Managers are responsible for working with line management to address health and safety issues and document these in non-conformance issues. If significant issues still remain uncorrected, HSE managers must escalate these within the HSE Department for further discussion and resolution.
Communication & Training
  • Develops and delivers health and safety training to team members for the assigned account.
  • Develops and deploys health and safety communication to team members across for the assigned account.
Compliance Management
  • Monitors and enforces compliance to all internal and external health and safety requirements.
  • Oversees and/or conducts field inspections, job observations, health and safety audits and other types of reviews to monitor compliance to health and safety requirements and to identify risks.
  • Communicates observations, non-compliance and risks to stakeholders, and provides and implements corrective and preventative measures to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Oversees and prepares and submits compliance reports as required.
  • Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Certification in one or more of the following - Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (CRSP), through a Community College or University degree.
  • Minimum 3 year of supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications.
  • The ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities.
  • Minimum of 10 years of health and safety program execution work experience.
  • Advanced communication, influence and persuasion skills.
  • Highly advanced ability to champion health and safety programs and influence stakeholders to achieve health and safety objectives.
  • Ability to develop and deliver health and safety-related training.
  • Skilled at incident investigation and resolution, root cause analysis along with preventative and corrective measure implementation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
