Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting, the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting will play a key role in the preparation of OMERS consolidated financial statements and other external and internal reporting and analysis requirements. Researching and documenting OMERS position on certain technical accounting issues, assisting with the high quality and timely execution of monthly and quarterly corporate close process, and enhancing process efficiencies and controls. This role also involves collaboration with the wider Corporate Finance team and with finance teams across the enterprise. It provides opportunities to work alongside senior leaders across the OMERS organization and with the external auditor, and develop new skillsets for your growing career.



The incumbent will demonstrate strength in technical accounting and accounting standards, experience in financial reporting and a track record of working on and leading high performing teams. In this role you will be a key member of the OMERS Corporate Finance team. Our ambitions are high: we aim to be the best corporate finance team in the Canadian pension industry.



As part of this role, you will be responsible for:



Keeping abreast of accounting standards development for pension plans (Section 4600), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and regulatory standards published by FSRA. Researching, documenting, and reviewing conclusions with respect to complex accounting issues to develop our enterprise-wide accounting policies. Presenting to senior leaders on issues and recommendations, and providing technical accounting updates and advice to the Corporate Finance team and our finance business partners.



Compiling and reviewing the OMERS consolidated financial statements and other external reporting requirements, while ensuring a robust internal controls process and the accuracy of financial reporting



Ensuring the maintenance and continuous improvement of process documentation and strong internal controls over financial accounting and reporting. This includes collaborating with the team in the optimization and sustainment of a newly implemented accounting system, reviewing and improving current processes with a key focus on efficiency and resiliency of future state



Supporting the enterprise-wide coordination of OMERS monthly close processes and timelines as a key interface with OMERS Business Unit Finance Teams, and supporting the final delivery of reporting to key stakeholders including the Board of Directors and Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA).



Monthly and quarterly accounting, comprising review of journal entries and account reconciliations



Coordinating and liaising with internal and external auditors for fieldwork, as well as accounting and internal control matters



Collaborating with a team of financial professionals to strengthen culture and community, and driving excellence and expertise



Use appropriate judgment in dealing with issues and requests, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize work, balance resource requirements and determine solutions.

To succeed in this role, you have:



7+ years' relevant experience in progressive financial reporting roles leading successful teams of accounting professionals



Post-secondary degree in business, accounting, or finance with a CPA designation



3+ years in a leadership role



Strong understanding of accounting standards for pension plans in Canada and IFRS with particular technical expertise in financial instruments. Strong accounting acumen and practical application skills.



Experience with the processes and mechanics of financial accounting and reporting in a multi-business, international, complex enterprise. Ability to challenge the status quo and deliver new/innovative improvements to financial processes



Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate to various levels



Experience with Oracle and Workiva would be an asset
