Scotiabank\'s Term Lending System (TLS) team is responsible for building, maintaining, and servicing the mortgage system of the Bank. We work collaboratively with our business partners Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) and Insurance Canada (IC) to understand and achieve a holistic view of all customers\' various mortgage and creditor insurance needs and requirements.

To support the above vision, we are seeking an experienced Senior Manager who will lead this team and help achieve the desired goals enhancement and support of our application. This position will be reporting to the Director, Mortgages & Retail Lending Technology with employees and contractors reporting into them. The team is made up of architects, application engineers, business system analyst, support analyst, quality assurance engineers, and more. We are looking for individuals who will work as a member of a dynamic Agile team developing mortgage solutions for retail customers of Scotiabank.

The Mortgage and Retail Lending team supports the enhancement, development, and maintenance of critical mortgage applications within Canadian Banking. The Term Lending System is a Critical Information Asset of the bank that is the book of record for mortgages. As a leader of the team, you will be responsible for planning & delivering the projects and operational support.

  • Own, Lead and drive an important function of the technology team and its objective\'s.
  • Strong Engineering background in Java & related technologies to guide team technically and ability to review the code.
  • People management and team culture is your passion.
  • Delivery and people management of highly complex technology programs which consist of multiple Technology projects for multiple business partners and stakeholders, across multiple business units.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for managing resources, technology direction, and alignment of business technology roadmaps.
  • Vendor management and engagement for technology solutions ensuring synergistic utilization of vendor partnerships while simultaneously containing costs. Holding vendors accountable for quality of deliverables and service provision.
  • Responsible for monthly financials and allocation for employees and contractors.
  • Understand how the Bank\'s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
  • 5+ years of IT and business/industry work experience.
  • The incumbent will have a bachelor\'s or master\'s Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering.
  • Hands-on engineering experience for 5+ years is required to lead the engineering team.
  • 3+ years of people management experience is required.
  • Mortgage Business application knowledge and experience (from technology side) will be added advantage.
  • In-Depth Experience of Development and/or Architecture in at least 1 technology area and exposure to others
  • Process knowledge and experience in scheduling, resource allocation, risk management and systems design.
  • Critical thinking, continuous improvement, and transformation in leading the group delivering high performance while aligning to group and Bank\'s strategic direction.
  • Experience in vendor management, including contract negotiations and managing outsourcers.
  • Willing to carry a pager for production support off hours (for escalation)
