The department is accountable for managing the overall credit risk within the Retail portfolio from all origination channels, providing prompt service on adjudication through recovery to all channel owners, and supporting key internal and external stakeholders on activities directly relating to the consumer credit environment. This is a unique, broad, and exciting role to lead major components of the second line of defence in a consumer credit function, including partnering enterprise wide on activities that impact the organization as a whole and drive Meridian\xe2\x80\x99s strategy forward. As Senior Manager, Credit Policy & Compliance, you will partner with the Retail Credit Leadership team to ensure all policies and programs are aligned with Meridian and motusbank\xe2\x80\x99s risk appetite and regulatory obligations. You will identify opportunities for policy enhancements, analyze regulatory changes and provide analysis to leadership on the potential impact of these changes. You will investigate and support new credit offers and strategies and develop thorough and up to date market risk assessments that may impact credit granting. You will look for different ways to do business or improve on existing processes, and provide key partners with value-add services and support. With a growth mindset and a focus on innovation in the lending space, you will support the delivery of a differentiated Member experience. You will work directly with some of our most critical vendors, to ensure a solid foundation and relationship, from insurers to appraisal management firms, to credit bureau score providers.
Key Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for lending enhancements and ensure all lending policies, procedures, processes and systems meet regulatory requirements, remain competitive within the industry and support Meridian and motusbank\xe2\x80\x99s growth plans, while prudently managing risk.
  • Manage third party originated credit file programs, including mortgage portfolios, automotive financing, and outsourced adjudication programs.
  • Support evaluation of all projects, programs brought to Credit for review from internal and external departments, for both Meridian and motusbank. Ensure analysis and recommendation to Credit Management Committee, Executive, and Board considers risk management implications and target risk profile/appetite alignment, balance sheet implications, and compliance/regulatory implications.
  • Conduct market research and write executive and Board level position papers relative to proposed credit legislation and their impact on the organization.
  • Identify and monitor geographic and economic market risks that may impact credit granting or policy (housing, employment, consumer confidence), and continually provide Credit Management and Executive leadership with updates and recommendations to effectively manage those risks.
  • Manage all Retail Credit policy changes, from environmental scans and recommendations through to implementations and monitoring for Ontario, and nationally. This includes preparation of board approvals and management of board level compliance limits.
  • Support internal and external review engagements of the Credit function, including centralized file reviews, management of funding source reviews, regulatory examinations and third party reviews. Provide leadership oversight on those findings, manage stakeholder audit review process (including with vendors), and manage follow up process.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships by effectively communicating and regularly sharing information, learnings, and knowledge with internal partners.
  • Ensure all credit documentation, both internal and external, from support materials through security documentation, are accurate and up to date at all times.
  • Lead vendor management activities with key external stakeholders within the Credit function, including loan systems, insurers, third party originators, external audit, and valuation management.
  • Represent Credit Management in cross functional assignments to ensure appropriate controls and considerations are given prior to execution.


Education, Designations, Training, and Experience
  • College or University Degree, MBA in Business or Economics preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in consumer credit.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the Canadian lending space, with required OSFI and/or FSRA experience.
  • Financial acumen required for management of large scale portfolios.
  • Ability to present logical well drafted recommendations for presentation to all levels, leveraging data and analytics, both in written form and public speaking.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience working on cross functional teams or projects. Technical acumen to support loan system management, testing and enhancements.
  • Demonstrate innovative and creative approaches to solving difficult challenges and seizing opportunities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and negotiate as required.
  • Work well in a collaborative team environment.
  • Must be adaptable, detail oriented and organized.
