Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) is hiring a Senior Manager, Category Development on a temporary basis (12 months, with a possible 6-month extension) on our Food team. This position is a hybrid opportunity and is based out of Saskatoon, SK.


In this role, you will lead the Food department's strategy to boost sales and profitability by overseeing category programs, pricing, promotions, and merchandising. While mentoring Category Managers, you will ensure alignment with category initiatives across Local Co-operative food locations. What you'll do:



Lead and oversee the department's Category Management team, providing training and guidance to support category development and ensure effective execution of strategies to maximize sales, profitability, shelf space and customer experience. Drive category performance by analyzing market trends and consumer needs, and collaborating with internal teams to develop innovative products, marketing, and promotional strategies. Collaborate with suppliers to optimize Category Management processes, while assisting in vendor negotiations regarding supplier pricing, marketing, promotional support and cost of goods Develop Category objectives and financial budgets, work with Category Management teams to ensure the financial plans are executed, monitored throughout the year, and achieved. Monitor team performance, foster continuous improvement, and lead employee development efforts, including talent identification, acquisition, and training to build a high-performing department.

The Team:

Reporting into the Director, Category Management, you will lead a diverse team of Category Managers & Specialists. You will work closely with Zone Operation Managers & Advisors (OAs), the Senior Manager of Pricing & Promotions, the Senior Manager of Product Development and the Supervisor of Shelf Management to ensure pricing, store brand execution, and shelf planograms align with the category management strategy. This team strives to cultivate a culture that is high-performing, results-oriented, and business savvy.

You will demonstrate customer focus while communicating with Operations and local Co-ops to support their customers.

Who you are:



You are looking for a career in Category Management and:


Have 8+ years of relevant progressively responsible experience in marketing, operations, or Category Management in the retail food industry, including 3+ years management experience. Have a bachelor's degree in commerce, business, or marketing (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered). Have experience with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
