Senior Learning Designer (contract)

Job Description


Preference will be given to qualified employees, as defined in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement. Should a suitable candidate not be found, external candidates will be considered.Reporting into the Director, Teaching and Learning Innovation, the Senior Learning Designer will oversee the design, development, and implementation of learning experiences for on-line, blended and in-person modality. The role requires a creative thinker with expertise in curriculum development, instructional design, and project management. The Senior Learning Designer will work closely with faculty, administrators, and a team of learning designers/instructional designers, instructional technologist, and quality assurance personnel to ensure courses are of the highest quality.What You\'ll Be Doing

  • Leading the course design and development process using a cohort-based or individualistic approach;
  • Spearheading the design of courses across various modalities with a focus on digital pedagogy;
  • Providing tools, techniques, and resources, including templates, to faculty and SPARK\'s internal course design team to promote a common language and adherence to best practices;
  • Collaborating with program teams to establish standards for courses design;
  • Establishing a review process to ensure quality standards are being adhered to by faculty and program teams;
  • Leading the creation of assessments in line with the program\'s assessment strategy to ensure intentional and authentic evaluations;
  • Documenting course development standards and requirements for program teams;
  • Coordinating with other departments as necessary to ensure that project teams and content experts/faculty comply with copyright laws and regulations;
  • Leading the execution of all course design projects;
  • Collaborating with system administrators and developers to generate reports for Associate Deans;
  • Evaluating design and development decisions and documenting their impact on engagement and learning;
  • Working with faculty to investigate and experiment with new ideas, concepts, tools, and techniques in course design;
  • Staying updated on current trends relevant to Sheridan\'s academic strategic direction;
  • Researching new methods, tools, and technique for continuously improvement of course design process;
  • Supervising the project team ensuring milestones are met and deliverables follow quality standards;
  • Accurately documenting course design projects, including lessons learned and identified risks;
  • Maintaining precise records of courses and their modalities (as approved) in Sheridan\'s systems;
  • Performing other related duties, as assigned.

  • Master in Instructional Design or Master of Education with emphasis in Instructional Design
  • 5 years of experience leading course design or instructional design team at a large organization
  • Proficiency in Project Management specifically in Teaching and Learning environment
  • Knowledge of user experience design and experience working with multimedia or technical development team
  • Proficiency in integration of various technologies in course design project, including AI
  • Experience with Change Management at a team and organization level
  • Any of the following will be considered an asset: Certificate in project management for Course Design, Certificate in project management, Certificate in user experience design or design thinking
