As a Senior Laboratory Manager, your main responsibilities are:

  • Overall management of the departmental functions, forecasting, budgeting, financial controls and approvals.
  • Direct the maximization of human, equipment and financial resources and ensure that they are used appropriately.
  • Assess and execute new processes and procedures that will streamline and increase the throughput of samples, Bureau Veritas's market share, profile and profitability.
  • Develop strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth.
  • Develop business plans that increase Bureau Veritas's profile in the region.
  • Implement new processes and procedures this will increase Bureau Veritas's market share, profile and profitability.
  • Provide recommendations for capital expenditures required within the department.
  • Evaluate and establish production of high quality defensible data, safely and on time.
  • Ensure methods in use meet current and proposed regulatory guidelines.
  • Oversee maintenance of good working environment, employee engagement and ensure continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency.
  • Lead and develop staff, including responsibility for recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided.
  • Assess and approve requests or recommend resource planning, e.g. need for additional staff or equipment.
  • Approve lab supplies and equipment.
  • Develop strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth.
  • Assess feasibility of Kaizen projects.
  • Develop and nurture ongoing interdepartmental relationships within the region and its customers.
  • Develop business plans that increase Bureau Veritas's profile in the region.
  • Develop and maintain a positive work environment for employees.
  • Act as technical resource for Managers, Customer Service and staff.
  • Acts as a positive change agent in supporting Bureau Veritas's new initiatives (Operational and Cultural).
  • Upholds ethical standards at all times.
  • Ensure production of high quality defensible data, safely and on time.
  • Ensure deadlines and customer expectations are being met.
  • Responsible for the recommendation of capital expenditures required within the department.
  • Provide feedback during budgeting process.
  • Ensure analytical instruments are in an optimized and calibrated condition.
  • Assess and approve improvements regarding process efficiency.
  • Ensure that employees are following the SOPs and work to reduce non-conformances.
  • Ensure biweekly, monthly and annual safety targets are met.
  • Understand and enforce Bureau Veritas's EHS Policy as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.
You are the ideal Senior Laboratory Manager, if you have:
  • B.Sc. degree, technical diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated success in the role of Laboratory Manager.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in production environment, of which five (5) years are at a managerial level
  • Up-to-date knowledge of laboratory practices, techniques, processes and automation.
  • Thorough understanding of Bureau Veritas's Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Use good judgment in the resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Good team building, training, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Experience in directing work flow in a production lab setting is essential.
  • Must have the ability to identify the organizational needs and to conceptualize and manage the implementation of solutions in a production setting.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing environment and balancing business and corporate needs to meet changing priorities.
  • Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), company policies and guidelines.
  • Results -oriented, dynamic self-starter with a positive outlook and "can-do" attitude and strong time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Quickly adapts to changing environment.
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal skills and a customer-centric mind set.
  • Energetic personality that can work both independently and with a team in a multi-tasking fast paced environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office; LIMS experience is an asset.
