The FSS comprises nine departments, schools and institutes, which offer undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs in both English and French. With its 10,000 students, 260 full-time professors, and wide array of programs and research centres, the Faculty of Social Sciences plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Along with its complement of about 100 administrative employees, the faculty is proud to provide a collaborative working environment that inspires new ideas, encourages creative ingenuity, and promotes excellence.Position purpose: Under the supervision of the Senior Manager of IT Infrastructure and Systems, independently provides senior level technical advice and support to the members of the Faculty of Social Sciences under their responsibility, regarding IT infrastructure, hardware, software and peripherals. Manages the lifecycle (acquisition, commissioning, maintenance and repair) of IT assets in a manner that meets or exceeds customer service standards. Assists manager in supervising work performed by one or more subordinates.In this role, your main responsibilities will include:Diagnostics and repair services: Provides senior-level support services to quickly identify, analyze and resolve the most complex technical problems involving hardware, software, infrastructure, peripherals and other IT equipment.Connectivity and Access Support: Evaluates the ability of various networks to meet current and future Faculty needs, and makes recommendations for the provision of acceptable levels of service, including the maintenance of connectivity and accessibility.Technical Installation Services: Provides specialized technical installation services to internal customers for hardware, including computers, networks and other IT equipment such as network adapters, to effectively meet users\' technology needs.Software installation and upgrade services: Advises on software installation, testing and upgrading, and ensures the software is up to date, properly registered and effectively commissioned.Consulting services: Provides sound advice on emerging technologies and the possibility of incorporating them into the existing technological framework to enhance operations.Customer support, training and consulting: Provides specialized advice and training to IT technicians and users on the optimal use of computer hardware and software.Procurement Consulting: Evaluates hardware and software options, interpret user requirements and ensures smooth ordering, delivery and receiving.Trend and Needs Analysis: Evaluates users\' future needs and makes recommendations regarding hardware, software and other IT equipment requirements.Compliance and Monitoring: Promotes University and Faculty established standards to ensure pan-organizational security and integrity of IT operations.Supervision: Mentors subordinates and oversees their technical activities, under the guidance of the Manager.Project Management: Leads projects that affect a broad user base, and ensures their implementation within the Faculty.What you will bring:University degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and several years of relevant experienceAt least five years\' experience providing IT consulting and technical servicesKnowledge of operating systems, to be able to install them and understand, diagnose and solve complex problemsKnowledge of networking protocols and technologies, to be able to configure networks and solve connectivity problems.Knowledge of office software, to be able to help and guide users in their workKnowledge of the hardware, software and peripherals used at the University, as well as its security guidelines and standards.Knowledge of the University\'s IT policies and procedures in areas such as procurement or asset management and maintenanceExperience providing support to medium to large user groupsExperience in resolving a wide variety of complex software, hardware and peripheral issuesExperience in systems upgrades and proven ability to manage large projectsExperience working in a customer service environmentExperience in supervision, guidance, leadership and feedbackAnalytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex software, hardware and peripheral issuesAbility to proactively follow technological developmentsAbility to prioritize own tasks and meet strict deadlinesBilingualism: French and English (spoken and written); to be considered for this position, candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language.
