Senior It Project Manager

Job Description

The Open City and Technology Branch is seeking a highly-skilled Senior IT Project Manager with expertise in planning & delivering large transformational projects. Reporting to a Technology Project Management Office (PMO) program manager, you will: lead major (in both scale & scope) technology projects from conception to successful completion; coordinate & advise cross-departmental project teams; collaborate effectively with internal & external stakeholders; and support project delivery improvement initiatives at the City.
You will be responsible for successfully developing project components on schedule and on budget while ensuring that work products conform to requirements and are functionally acceptable to project sponsors and key stakeholders.
What will you do?

  • Manage multiple high complexity projects with large, multidisciplinary project teams using up-to-date project methodologies and best practices
  • Identify, engage, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders while maximizing the contribution of all project team members
  • Effectively manage day-to-day activities and performance of multiple simultaneous internal teams and external vendors
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, influence, and effectiveness
  • Accurately manage and report on project financials using effective fit-for-purpose tools and techniques
  • Proactively and tactfully manage project risks and issues
  • Ensure compliance and alignment with all applicable policies, directives, guidelines, and processes
  • Plan for and coordinate technology procurement activities, including gathering requirements, advising on evaluation criteria, and participating on evaluation committees
  • Provide regular, succinct, & effective updates, presentations, and status reports on key projects to leadership, including the City of Edmonton's Executive Leadership Team and various department leadership teams
  • With a sharpened leadership focus, mentor and coach stakeholders, colleagues, and team members on project management best practices
  • Apply industry best practices, methods, tools, approaches and techniques to improve the City's project management, process management, and organizational change management capabilities
  • Play a leading role in fostering the growth of the project management practice within the PMO section
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT-related discipline, and a minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in a Technology Project Management role with an emphasis on complex technology projects within a large complex organization; OR;
  • Post secondary diploma in an IT-related discipline with a minimum of 9 years of progressively responsible experience in a Technology Project Management role with an emphasis on transformational technology projects within a large complex organization
Assets:
  • Demonstrable experience leading million dollar, multi-year technology projects
  • Certification, coursework, or training in project delivery (including traditional and agile methodologies) and/or organizational change management
  • Experience in developing Project Management Office processes and tools, including guidelines, templates, and quality assurance & control
Skills required for success:
  • Demonstrable expertise with industry-leading predictive and adaptive principles & practices in a project management role
  • Skilled in interpersonal relationships, conflict resolution, negotiations, and the ability to build collaborative partnerships with stakeholders of all levels within an organization
  • Experience in effectively interacting with, communicating to, and influencing stakeholders and executive leadership
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including writing reports and delivering presentations to to a wide range of stakeholders, including executives

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week
Salary Range: $63.214 - $79.845(Hourly); $111,367.26 - $140,666.93(Annually)
