Senior Internal Auditor (operations)

Job Description

We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary offices. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.


Role Overview:





Oversees targeted audit assignments to confirm alignment with financial regulations and institutional policies. Designs and refines Risk and Control Matrices (RCMs) along with tailored evaluation strategies. Performs comprehensive assessments of internal control systems and risk mitigation frameworks to identify vulnerabilities and improvement opportunities. Communicates key insights to stakeholders and composes high-level audit summaries for senior leadership. Engages with cross-departmental teams to support the resolution and verification of audit recommendations. Maintains current knowledge of evolving financial regulations and industry benchmarks. Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior audit staff, fostering professional growth and audit excellence.


About the day-to-day:




Lead small to medium sized audit engagements to ensure compliance with regulatory standards Develop Risk & Control Matrices (RCMs) and related testing procedures. Conduct thorough and detailed testing to analyze and assess internal controls and risk management processes. Present observations to auditees and draft audit reports for senior management. Collaborate with various departments to identify and later validate the implementation of audit recommendations. Keep up-to-date with changes in regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Mentor and guide junior auditors to develop their skills and knowledge.

About you / qualifications:




Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certification such as CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE or CAMS (or willing to work towards certification while working). Minimum of 5 years of experience in internal auditing, with a focus on regulatory compliance. In-depth knowledge of OSFI, CDIC, and/or FINTRAC requirements, and knowledge of other relevant banking regulatory requirements (e.g., Trust & Loan Companies Act, Bank Act, Consumer Protection, AMF legislations) will be considered an asset. Knowledge of internal audit processes and risk-based approaches and methodologies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience working with various stakeholders within an organization. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. High level of integrity and attention to detail. Strong proficiency with systems; Word, PowerPoint, Outlook; Intermediate to advanced level of - Excel (pivot tables, IF functions, Lookup functions). Adaptable, flexible, innovative, and responsive to change with an ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, and multi-entity environment. Experience with Audit Board is a plus.

About the work environment:





Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.

Compensation:





Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary plus a discretionary profit share opportunity. Salary for this position will vary between $80,000 and $100,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that the chosen candidate possesses.
