Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Internal Audit, this position is responsible for leading the planning and conducting of financial and operational audits across all GCE business areas, and compliance focused audits to assess GCE\'s adherence to gaming regulatory requirements and crown partner contractual terms. Where required, also participate in consulting and other engagements, in accordance with professional and operational best practices. It includes testing the effectiveness of internal controls, assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of operations, evaluating findings and providing recommendations to stakeholders, performing data analytics, business process evaluation, documentation and reporting. An excellent command of English, both spoken and written, is mandatory. As part of the team, Internal Auditors contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for all employees by ensuring adherence to all provincial and internal controls, regulations, policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Participates in the annual operational and compliance risk assessments which flows through to the formulation of the annual audit plan.
  • Responsible for conducting and/or leading financial, operational and compliance related audit engagements of medium to higher level complexity including; planning, fieldwork, recommendations, client interactions, follow-ups and report writing.
  • Where required, provides support on CEO/CFO certification testing.
  • Conducts audits using current industry frameworks such as COSO and COBIT and in adherence with the IIA Professional Standards
  • Evaluates findings, provides practical recommendations and prepares reports
  • Perform detailed risk and control assessments of financial, operational and compliance audit areas under consideration. This includes new areas of audit focus that have never previously been covered.
  • Performs process walkthroughs, documents and charts findings
  • Identifies and communicates areas of risk
  • Follow-up with the appropriate team members to ensure audit findings and recommendations are addressed on a timely basis.
  • Develops approaches to minimize risk exposures; including development of automated monitoring scripts and tools, including best practice CAATs and continuous monitoring techniques
  • Assists with driving department transformation programs which will include implementing risk and technology based auditing approaches, streamlining processes and documentation, performance metrics, analytics, indicators and dashboards
  • Assists in annual external audit duties as assigned
  • Communicates effectively with all appropriate operational departments
  • Builds strong working relationships with stakeholders
  • Complies with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed
Education and Qualification Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in accounting/finance/audit or suitable combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5-7 years of internal audit experience with mid to large range corporations, or equivalent experience working in internal audit/risk consulting with a professional services firm.
  • CIA designation required (CFE, CISA, CAMS, CRMA designations are also considered assets)
  • CPA (CA, CGA, CMA) designation required
  • Strong knowledge of 52-109/ CEO/CFO certification requirements.
  • Strong technical IFRS accounting and audit knowledge required.
  • Familiarity with key legislation impacting the gaming industry (e.g. AML/Terrorist Financing, Anti-spam legislation, Privacy/PIPEDA, responsible gaming).
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize work flow and work under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Computer literacy in MS Office,; ACL Analytics & GRC or advance data analytics, Visio and/or other technology related tools
  • Prior experience working with an ERP solution (e.g. JD Edwards, Oracle, SAP)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry preferable
  • Gaming industry experience highly preferable
