Schedule / Terms of Employment: This is a full time (40 hours/week), permanent position

Primary Purpose

Coordinate Geotechnical activities related to a full range of ground control engineering functions to ensure safety, and compliance to government regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develops geotechnical assessment programs for various stages of project development and directs geotechnical exploration and foundation investigation programs.
  • Directs and evaluates geotechnical test programs.
  • Provides design criteria to project and operational teams for excavation and construction of pits, underground wall and roof support, dumps, water management facilities and infrastructure foundations for study documents, regulatory applications, and ongoing operations.
  • Conducts periodic reviews and audits of operational SOPs, OMS Manuals, and operating practices related to geotechnical stability.
  • Keeps the Engineering Manager informed on the progress of the geotechnical programs and reviews his key activities and plans with him/her to ensure that these are in accordance with overall corporate requirements.
  • Keeps the Sr. Project Engineer informed on the progress of the geotechnical programs for his/her project(s), and reviews key activities and plans with him/her to ensure that these are in accordance with overall project requirements.
  • Ensures that good working relationships are established with those working with him on given projects or operational studies.
  • Coordinates with consultants (internal and external) regarding the conceptual development and feasibility designs or in delivery of geotechnical services.
  • Provide technical advice and design analysis for ground control issues related to the open pits, dumps, stock piles, sumps, haul roads and drainage channels.
  • Carry out regular audits of the pit slopes and dumps and record results.
  • Supervise slope stabilization works, geotechnical drilling, and installation of monitoring equipment.
  • Collaborate in budgeting and forecasting and ensure adequate cost control of budget.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • University degree in Mine/Civil/Geological Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years\' relevant experience
  • Eligible for registration with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC), with registration within 1 year of commencement of post.
  • BC Mine Supervisor Certification
  • Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License
Technical Competencies and Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand the practical mining implications of geotechnical decisions.
  • Good communication skills with strong ability to disseminate geotechnical knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good understanding of mining SHE requirements.
