Your role


CBC Finance is looking for a Senior Finance/Business Analyst to join our CBC Local Services Finance team at the Vancouver Broadcast Centre. We are a 24-7 breaking news organization, with reach across television, radio, online, and mobile platforms.

The Finance/Business Analyst will be a key member of the CBC West Region business management team and will work directly with program and operations leaders supporting television, radio, and online platforms. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Finance, this position will be responsible for the business management of the day-to day activities of CBC News and Radio programming and operations. This role includes a broad range of financial and non-financial responsibilities.

Key Tasks:


  • Planning, budgeting, analysis, forecasting, and business reporting

  • Coordinate, track, control, and reconcile program expenditures and production costs

  • Prepare detailed analysis of business operations, including budget variances, recommending and implementing courses of action to maintain budget integrity

  • Provide guidance on cost effective production schedules and make daily business decisions for the production unit in order to achieve overall program objectives

  • Interpret, explain, report on, and provide advice on business management issues to Senior Management and Program Producers

  • Develop and manage annual programming budgets in collaboration with Executive Producers and Program Producers

  • Work in conjunction with Human Resources and Business Affairs to ensure that staffing and contracting adhere to agreed terms. Ensure compliance with labour agreements, CBC policies, and CBC/industry business practices

  • Perform other related duties as required


We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or applicants enrolled in the CPA program or applicants with post-secondary education in business and accounting

  • At least three years of progressively responsible related experience

  • Proven success in analyzing business operations

  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask

  • Superior investigative and analytical skills with the ability to identify and implement strategies for improvement

  • Ability to set priorities and balance competing business needs within budgetary constraints and reporting deadlines

  • Ability to work in a team, with highly developed interpersonal, organizational and oral and written communication abilities

  • Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment and able to communicate with all levels of management and staff

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and other MS Office applications. SAP, TM1 and FMT experience is an asset
