Your Opportunity:
Acute Care Alberta is in search of ten (10) Senior Financial Analysts (SFA) for their External Financial Reporting team. These eighteen-month (18) temporary, full-time positions are eligible for remote work from home. Applicants from across the province are welcome. Under the supervision and direction of managers responsible for external financial reporting, the SFAs assist in delivering financial reporting services to various provincial health agencies and provincial health corporations (collectively referred to as the entities). The SFAs support accurate, relevant, reliable, and timely financial reporting to senior executives of the entities, various Ministries and the public. The SFAs will primarily focus on external financial reporting and associated elements and may assist with preparation and review of financial reports for accountable grants. The SFAs will support projects and tasks including supporting the preparation and coordination of the external audit processes, planning and execution of final fieldwork, and reporting of audit results. Duties entail review of financial information, research of technical accounting issues including applicability of these issues to the entities, assistance with monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, interpretation of accounting standards and including recommendation of appropriate financial statement treatment for the entities. Assistance with tax preparation (charity, information and corporate returns) will also be required. There are 10 positions available.
Description:
As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will coordinate and/or prepare complex financial and statistical analysis and reports, along with providing interpretation of analyses and reports to support business and external requirements. Your work will be focused on budgets, forecasting, recommendations for program and/or cost efficiencies and development or enhancements to processes and controls. In addition, you will coordinate and monitor progress of financial projects, as well as coach and guide other department staff such as Financial Analysts.

Required Qualifications:

Post secondary degree specializing in accounting or related field (e.g. economics, statistics).

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidates should be knowledgeable of accounting principles and financial statement preparation for large and complex clients in a public sector setting. Experience in managing a single entity financial statement audit including the preparation of the required audited financial statements is required. Knowledge of tax return preparation and a proven ability to work with stakeholders to prepare effective analysis for reporting cycle is required. Ability to work with tight reporting deadlines, as well as strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications, specifically Excel and Word, are required. Ability to function within a collaborative team environment, excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills, as well as an ability to work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations are required for this position. This position will be part of Acute Care Alberta effective April 1, 2025. Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has demonstrated strong and current understanding of Public Sector Account Standards (PSAS) and other sectors of GAAP with 3 - 5 years of accounting/financial reporting experience with preference given to experience with a large, complex public sector entity. Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation is preferred. Experience with mentoring junior staff is preferred.
