Our Financial Services Department is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst who will drive sound financial decision making and provide value adding financial planning analysis and advice to our clients.
You are: A senior financial analyst professional who enjoys diving into problem solving using systems, processes, and data to develop financial analysis and solutions for our finance team and our clients. You have a strong leadership aptitude to work with our clients to understand their capital projects financial planning and assist them your financial expertise. You have an interest in financial modelling and forecasting and working with various parameters and understanding what drives our financial decisions.
This role:
Conducts research on and documents corporate budget policy, financial systems, and procedures.
Develops options for changes to budget policy, for consideration by senior officers.
Evaluates and reports to the supervisor or other senior officers on the impact of proposed changes in budget policy on existing systems.
Analyzes and evaluates existing databases.
Designs and develops programs and systems to retrieve information for budget analysis from computerized accounting databases.
Reviews, develops and implements modifications to financial systems and procedures and develops new systems and procedures to provide budget analysis information which facilitates and improves budget preparation and control.
Coordinates with representatives of other departments and divisions the Finance and Administration Department's input when systems are being developed or when changes are proposed for budget, accounting or related systems, to facilitate changes, to maintain the interface between systems, and to maintain or improve the quality of budget information available.
Coordinates and directs the work of other financial analysts where there are interdependencies between departmental matters, budget files, or budgets.
Performs related work as required.
To be successful, you have:
Completion of a recognized accounting course such as the C.P.A. program, or university graduation in a field such as commerce with specialization in accounting and finance, with training in computer systems and programming, and with considerable experience in accounting or audit, preferably in a municipal setting.
Thorough knowledge of legal requirements related to financial processes and control.
Thorough knowledge of budgeting principles and practices, including knowledge of program budgeting concepts and applications.
Considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including modern reporting and costing procedures.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of corporate administration with special emphasis on budgeting and financial controls.
Considerable knowledge of computerized data processing systems.
Ability to analyze and interpret various data and develop logical solutions.
Ability to evaluate financial systems and to carry out, or to assist with, the design and implementation of revised financial systems, policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental officials and staff.
