What you will do:





Reporting to the Manager, Payroll and Accounting, Financial Services, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:


Coordinate the processing of accounts payable payments by accounts payable staff, provide functional guidance, trouble shooting and ensure deadlines are met. Monitor and update internal business processes, educate internal staff on accounts payable and purchasing processes Oversee the EFT verification process for suppliers and ensure proper vetting of changes to supplier set up Responsible for researching and implementing new Accounting Standards that impact the City's financial statements Perform monthly accounting duties including accounts payable reconciliation Prepare weekly cash flow projection and provide recommendations on timing of short-term investments Coordinate the finance year end process for the City, perform year-end duties including set up of financial system for next fiscal year, provide functional guidance to more junior staff Ensure that the City is in compliance with HST legislation Maintain internal controls related to the city's bank account, accounts payable, bank reconciliations and petty cash Evaluate, identify and implement opportunities for process improvement for Accounts Payable and General Ledger processes Work with System Analyst to perform functional maintenance of PeopleSoft Accounts Payable and General Ledger Modules including maintenance of software configuration, testing patches and fixes, troubleshooting errors/process issues and creating ad-hoc queries and reports Provide functional support and testing during PeopleSoft upgrades and implementations of new functionality Ensure effective communication with all customers and stakeholders; provide technical advice and information as required Provide back up to other staff for critical tasks impacting daily operations of the department Other duties as required

What you will bring:



Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or other related field with a minimum of five (5) years' related experience preferably in a municipal environment or in a related public sector work environment with knowledge about legislation related to finance; a combination of education and experience may be considered Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing Previous experience and proficiency with enterprise financial software and databases, preferably PeopleSoft, including the implementation and maintenance of software configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and creating ad-hoc queries and reports Previous experience working with year end entries and reconciliations for financial statements Previous experience working with accounts payable reconciliations, monthly financial reporting and cash flow projections Thorough knowledge and experience with HST legislation, proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel Proven project management, business process design and organizational skills to manage competing and changing priorities Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as strong attention to detail Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that allow you to interact effectively with staff and customers and other stakeholders Self-motivated, goal-orientated individual capable of working in a dynamic and challenging work environment Ability to work effectively in a team setting Strong commitment to delivering excellent financial support and service A passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment Demonstrated commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion

What we will require:




A Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to the City Proof of your current and valid certificate(s), licenses and/or educational qualification, CPA registration details if in progress/applicable Applicants will be required to undergo skills assessment testing

Hours of Work:

This position may be required to work in excess of the regular 35 hours per week, as needed (e.g. during peak year end times or during other peak deliverable times)

Work Location: This position is eligible to apply for a hybrid working arrangement in accordance with the City's remote Working Procedure (reviewed annually), subject to managerial approval. Ongoing eligibility and/or approval is not guaranteed.
