Job Purpose and Summary:

As a member of the Financial Accounting team, reporting to the Manager, Financial Accounting and Accounts Payable, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the Financial Accounting teams and confidently making recommendations using knowledge of best practices, Public Sector Accounting Standards (\xe2\x80\x9cPSAS\xe2\x80\x9d), critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. The Senior Financial Analyst will assume accounting responsibility for the designated portfolio and the corresponding notes for the audited financial statements. The Senior Financial Analyst brings a high level of financial accounting technical knowledge, internal control and operational expertise, and leadership skills to a functional service and diverse team.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Accounting responsibility for financial reconciliations including processing month-end journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, liaising with relevant department counterparts and leads.
  • Ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the financial information
  • Maintain compliance with PSAS and related reporting.
  • Lead and collaborate on projects within the department as they arise and improve operational internal controls, and process efficiencies and effectiveness.
Specific Accountabilities:
  • Ensures compliance to PSAS and Ministry of Health reporting standards, while ensuring reconciliations of Balance Sheet accounts are completed accurately and timely, reflecting the financial position of the organization and highlighting potential exposure.
  • Actively participates in month-end journal entries and reconciliation process.
  • Performs monthly variance analysis and interpretation of financial results, participates in month end and year end close activities.
  • Supports in the year end audit process and information required by external auditors and the internal finance team.
  • Develops and supports department-specific initiatives that focus on improving service and streamlining operations, recommends and leads changes.
  • Maintains policies and procedures related to the assigned portfolio.
  • Provides education and training to program departments and other members of the Finance team on related policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates closely with other members of the Finance team on items that have a broader impact.
  • Supports specific reporting and reconciliation initiatives related to the assigned portfolio.
Key Qualifications:
  • A recognized accounting designation with a minimum 5 years of related progressive experience is required
  • In depth knowledge and application of accounting standards is required
  • Positive and self-directed with a high level of accountability and the ability to collaborate to deliver complete and complex financial analysis with in depth analytics.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential.
  • Strong people/project management skills
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills combined with excellent organizational and, analytical and attention to detail
  • Understanding and working knowledge of regulations/legislation related to areas of expertise and functional responsibilities
  • Strategic conceptual thinker with the ability to integrate \xe2\x80\x9cbig picture\xe2\x80\x9d thinking into operations
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skillset with proficiency in other Microsoft Office suites
  • Working knowledge of Meditech financial modules preferred.
