About the Opportunity
Our client, a not-for-profit organization based in downtown Ottawa, is seeking a Senior Finance Coordinator for a six-month contract. The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance Director to produce accurate financial reporting, contribute to the budgeting cycle, and help improve internal control processes.
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performing General Ledger and credit card reconciliations
  • Preparing audit schedules for the upcoming interim audit and final audit
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for funders, managers, and board members, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards
  • Reviewing actual results versus budgeted amounts and providing detailed commentary and analysis
  • Assisting with the budgeting and costings process
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal policies and procedures
  • Providing information and support during audits
  • Monitoring and maintaining assigned accounts, including bank reconciliations and designated fund accounts, and taking corrective action when required
  • Processing bi-weekly payroll
  • Communicating financial information to managers, executives, board members, and funders, and responding to questions on financial performance
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and recommending solutions to streamline operations
  • Supporting periods of staff absence by assisting with accounts receivable and accounts payable activities
  • Creating GL codes aligned with financial reporting requirements
  • Completing month-end and year-end close activities in the SAGE accounting system, ensuring adjustments align with audited financial statements
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
  • At least 5+ years of experience in a similar role with a NFP organization
  • Extensive experience performing General Ledger and credit card reconciliations
  • Extensive experience with preparation of audit schedules for the interim audit
  • Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and account reconciliation
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting standards
  • Experience with SAGE accounting software preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to various stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
About the Job
  • This is a three-month contract with the possibility of extension
  • The role is hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) and is located downtown Ottawa
