Senior Estimator

to lead tendering efforts and support projects from pre-construction through award.

Position Summary



The

Senior Estimator

will act as a key member of the pre-construction team, responsible for managing the full tendering process for general contracting projects. This role requires strong technical judgment, cost analysis skills, and the ability to coordinate internal staff and external subcontractors. The Senior Estimator will review tender documents, break down scopes of work, assign estimating tasks, solicit and evaluate subcontractor pricing, and participate in project handover and early construction coordination.

Key ResponsibilitiesTender & Pre-Construction Management



Review and analyze tender documents, including drawings, specifications, addenda, and contractual requirements Lead the preparation of competitive, accurate GC estimates for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects Develop detailed scope breakdowns and allocate estimating tasks to internal team members Identify project risks, constraints, and cost drivers at the tender stage

Subcontractor & Supplier Coordination



Identify, prequalify, and invite subcontractors and suppliers for pricing Prepare and issue scope sheets and bid invitations Review, level, and analyze subcontractor quotations for completeness, compliance, and value Conduct scope clarification meetings and resolve gaps or exclusions

Cost Analysis & Pricing



Prepare quantity take-offs, cost plans, and detailed estimate summaries Analyze labor, material, equipment, subcontract, and general condition costs Evaluate alternates, allowances, contingencies, and value-engineering options Assist management with pricing strategies and final bid submissions

Meetings & Project Handover



Attend site visits, tender meetings, and pre-bid conferences Participate in consultant meetings and respond to RFIs during tendering Lead or participate in estimating turnover / project kick-off meetings after award Support project teams during early construction with budget clarifications and scope reviews

Process & Team Leadership



Mentor junior estimators and support the development of internal estimating procedures Maintain estimating databases, historical cost data, and subcontractor contacts Track tender outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating accuracy and efficiency

Qualifications & Requirements



Minimum

7-10 years of experience

in estimating for a

General Contractor

Strong experience with

commercial, institutional, and/or industrial construction

Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings Solid understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and Ontario construction practices Experience managing subcontractor pricing across multiple trades Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines concurrently Proficient with Microsoft Excel and estimating / take-off software Familiarity with Ontario public tendering, school board projects, and CCDC contracts is an asset
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
