Summary
We are seeking a Senior Estimator to join our dynamic team in Canada. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your expertise in construction estimating and project management to contribute significantly to our mission of delivering exceptional sign products and services.
Estimate Preparation
Review and interpret architectural, structural, electrical, and signage drawings/specifications.
Conduct take?offs for materials, labour, electrical elements, structural supports, lighting, finishes, etc.
Determine fabrication, finishing, and transportation costs (including subcontractors when required).
Estimate installation costs, including site preparation, mounting/anchoring, electrical hookup, permits, site logistics, travel, and site safety.
Design/Engineering Coordination
Collaborate with designers/engineers to review feasibility, suggest value engineering options, and adjust designs to improve cost, manufacturability, or installation efficiency.
Ensure that structural supports, electrical design, and mounting meet BC building codes, municipal sign by?laws, electrical codes, safety regulations.
Vendor/Supplier Management
Source and evaluate suppliers/subcontractors for raw materials, lighting/electrical components, aluminium, steel, acrylics, signage faces, finishes, etc.
Maintain up?to?date pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities, and reliability.
Negotiate pricing where possible, ensuring best total cost without compromising quality or schedule.
Risk/Profitability Management
Identify potential cost overruns, hidden costs (site conditions, shipping, code changes, remediation), delays, or design ambiguities.
Include appropriate contingencies.
Ensure estimates include proper overhead, profit margins, labour burden, equipment costs.
Customer/Client Interaction
Attend pre?bid site visits/walk?throughs.
Clarify scope with clients, architects, consultants.
Provide follow?up: respond to client questions about estimates, adjust proposals if designs change.
Project Handover & Monitoring
When bids are won, assist with transitioning project information to production and installation teams.
Monitor actual costs vs. estimated cost: labour hours, material usage, and change orders. Provide feedback, adjust estimating models.
Continuous Improvement
Maintain/develop estimating templates, databases of unit costs, historical cost records.
Identify inefficiencies or areas for improvement in processes, designs, or supplier relations.
Keep informed of trends in materials, labour rates, electrical/illumination technologies, code/regulation changes in BC.
Other Duties
Assist with scheduling, ordering, inventory tracking as needed.
Train/mentor more junior estimators or assistants.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies.
