Company DescriptionWe are looking for a rare gemWe are the world's leading diamond company, powered by thousands of people around the world who are driven to support thriving local communities, protect the natural environment, and stand with women and girls, focused on Building Forever.If you like chasing demanding targets, thrive on making decisions in the pursuit of brilliance, and enjoy the support of the world's finest experts, we have a place for you.This position is responsible to carry out field inspections of activities related to the mine site; conduct monitoring and sampling programs as required by environmental permits, regulations and programs, including the collection, field analysis and shipping of samples, following established site sampling and analytical methods; investigating and documenting environmental incidents or accidents; coaching and maintaining open communications with all workers at the mine site with respect to environmental protection. The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe work practices and strives for zero harm.Key responsibilities:

  • Advanced sampling, collection and data analysis;
  • Collation of the inputs for the environmental project plan;
  • Completion and oversight of field analysis and shipping of samples;
  • Carrying out field inspections of construction, operational and reclamation activities; secondary regulatory reporting;
  • Investigating and documenting environmental incidents or accidents; development of first-stage regulatory reporting documents; review of first stage regulatory reporting documents from technicians;
  • Implements and monitors the compliance standards of contractors and reports non-compliance to coordinator;
  • Collate notes and draft memos to provide the coordinator and analyst for reporting purposes/regulatory compliance;
  • Leading field programs ensuring efficiencies in schedule are identified and capitalized upon; and
  • Assisting in the coordination of waste management and spill prevention programs.
  • Assist in wildlife management, monitoring and response at the Gahcho Kue Mine
  • Working with indigenous partners to help facilitate the capture of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and other monitoring as it relates to the Gahcho Kue mine.
Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator within the Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Training department and is in Band GBF8. This is a site based position with a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation.QualificationsFormal qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in the field of Environmental Management or Monitoring;
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in lab and sampling analysis of water, air and soils;
  • Experience with environmental sampling, monitoring and reporting under regulatory mechanisms;
  • Experience or familiarity with Federal and provincial Legislation with particular focus towards resource development permitting process;
  • Keen to work outdoors and travel in a muskeg environment during winters and summers; and
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC)
Desirable Assets:
  • Knowledge of the environment and natural ecology of the Northwest Territories;
  • Experience in the mining industry with operations at a remote site; and
  • Experience operating and maintaining equipment (snowmobiles, boats and quads).
  • Previous experience working in and around small aircraft, such as helicopters
  • Firearms Possession & Acquisition Licence (PAL)
  • Relevant outdoor professional safety training such as wilderness survival, ice rescue etc.
