Write, implement, test and debug computer programs and associated data with respect to monitoring of system operating limits. Maintain computer programs and associated data in satisfactory operating and production condition. Determine system fault currents under short-circuit conditions through use of commercial power system analysis tools. Prepare load flow and short circuit base cases used for operating and planning studies. Maintain and manage technical databases. Document and assist in the coordination of planned outages in the short term. Create and maintain ICG single line diagrams for Control Room and other users. What you\'ll be doing

  • Analyze statistical, mathematical and engineering data to assist professional staff carrying out studies relative to power system operation and reliability. Receive assignments as a statement of an objective, generally by discussions covering requirements, and scope of individual involvement. Plot, tabulate or otherwise extend and complete data. Assist in the analysis of data for the solution of problems related to power system operation and reliability. Portray results in graphic, tabular or other form suitable to the formulation of conclusions by others. Assist in the preparation of related reports as requested.
  • Write, modify, implement, test and debug computer programs and associated data to facilitate the monitoring of security limits in the EMS. Receive assignment as a statement of an objective, generally accompanied by discussions on parameters, interfacing and the like. Work with users on the problem identification and definition of requirements. Design programs based on standard programming models to provide mathematical solutions to engineering problems. Prepare detailed flow charts and design logic and subroutines within the program. Develop and prepare associated documentation and operating instructions and submit completed package for supervisory reference and approval. Assist with implementation of programs into production modes.
  • Maintain computer programs and associated data in satisfactory operating and production condition. Assignments originate through Supervisor, or designated personnel. Plan and carry out tests to detect and isolate problems and discuss findings with responsible personnel. Contact users and others involved to discuss and agree on remedial measures. Correct or modify coding and update documentation, listings and operating procedures.
  • Determine system fault currents under short-circuit conditions through use of commercial power system analysis tools. Discuss short-circuit requests with engineering personnel concerned to establish the critical assumptions, stages of system development to be studied, extent of system representation, generation level and outage conditions. Select an existing base case or establish a new base case as required. Obtain all line, machine and transformer data necessary for internal and external systems to establish the short circuit base cases. Prepare documentation, showing sources of information, changes and calculations performed. Tabulate computer results and submit for supervisory reference and use.
  • Prepare load flow base cases for operating and planning studies, outage assessment studies and contingency analysis. Collect, analyze and prepare all data required for the development of loads, generation patterns and system configuration changes essential for the creation of base case load flows. Implement changes provided by other users in the base case, fine-tune the load flow and deliver the final case in a timely manner for production environment. Design and create single line diagrams for the required study areas.
  • Design and create, after discussions with engineers, single line diagrams for the various study areas in Ontario to facilitate system studies.
  • Maintain and manage technical databases. Collect data necessary to maintain and update databases used in the operation of the power system; such as, lines, transformers, generator, exciter, circuit breaker, capacitor, loads, relay settings and flowgates. Support EMS applications by collecting, collating and verifying equipment data.
  • Document and assist in the coordination of planned outages in the short term. Maintain and update data files relative to the present and future status of the power system. Monitor future planned outages submitted for reference and approval by the market participants, collect data pertaining to immediate and future system configuration and document as staged development diagrams portraying existing and planned facilitates several years into the future.
