JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Engineer is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies, and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower\xe2\x80\x99s management team, the candidate in this position will be conducting analysis on the health and condition of the transmission lines assets based on available data, prepare and/or participate in preparation of annual maintenance plans, annual sustainment plans, support Transmission Operations and Construction groups with respect to asset issues during maintenance, replacement and construction activities, act as a subject matter expert (SME) for the department on Transmission Structures and Foundations, have knowledge on concepts of asset management framework as defined by Institute of Asset Management (IAM) and prepare lifecycle asset management plans and lifecycle cost models for transmission assets (e.g. structures, and other assets as may be required).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Analyse available health and condition assessment data and prepare and/or participate in preparation of annual maintenance and sustainment plans
  • Prepare Lifecycle Asset Management plan and Lifecycle cost models for transmission structures
  • Prepare, participate, review in risk-based / condition-based asset investment justifications (AIJ), perform technical and economical analysis of alternative solution and make recommendations
  • Understanding of Institute of Asset Management framework, asset hierarchy, etc. and support asset management maturity model within System Planning and Asset Management division
  • Participate in review of engineering drawings and deliverables at various stages of project delivery to ensure compliance to current standards
  • Participate in preparation of new and review/update existing standards
  • Chair and/or represent Transmission Line Assets group in technical meetings and committees
  • Provide expect judgement with respect to transmission structures and foundations
  • Prepare and/or review tower/structure models and conduct structure strength analysis
  • Provide technical assistance and support for construction and operations groups
  • Participate in or conduct root cause analysis and provide recommendations
  • Review quality document and drawings submitted by vendors
  • Review work done by junior engineers and act a peer reviewer for others
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineering and other in the team
  • Provide technical direction to staff, consultants, and others
  • Increase collaboration and working relations with other groups such as Transmission Planning, Transmission Operations, Engineering, Construction, Project Delivery, etc.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Engineering in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
  • Professional Engineering Designation P.Eng.
  • IAM Certification is preferred
  • A minimum of six years post P. Eng. relevant experience that includes:
o Asset management, planning, designing, constructing, operating, maintenance, etc.
o Demonstrated competency in engineering with respect to tower design and modeling, maintain knowledge on industry standards, trends, and developments, with respect to asset management of transmission infrastructure.
o Demonstrated ability to provide recommendations and influence decision making
o Demonstration of strong relationships with working groups, committees and technical leaders across the organization and external partners
o Ability to provide competent leadership, including, coaching and development of technical staff including engineers, engineers-in-training and other resources as required
o Deep and/or broad experience providing guidance and expertise on complex technical issues
o Demonstrated competency in PLS CADD/TOWER/POLE as it relates to structure design and transmission line design
o Working knowledge and/or experience with asset management tools such as IPS Energy, Bentley, GE Digital, etc., and other software tools such as SAP, STAAD Pro, LPILE, MFAD, Nektar, ArcGIS, etc. would be beneficial
  • Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills
  • Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork
  • Demonstrated skill in SaskPower\'s Competencies
  • Must have a continuing record of professional development
