Job Description

The Senior Engineer, Naval Architecture - Concept Design, is responsible for completing naval architecture activities within the Concept Design team at Seaspan Shipyards. Under the direction of the Director - Concept Design; the Senior Engineer, Naval Architecture participates in the development of new concept designs, including hull form development, stability, powering & resistance, and hydrodynamic analyses.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do

Provides engineering and design expertise in assigned areas of Naval Architecture by preparing and reviewing design and calculation packages to ensure design requirements are met. Designs and optimizes ship hull forms and general arrangements. Collaborate with the mechanical and electrical engineers on developing power and propulsion architecture. Performs Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses for optimizing hull appendages and propulsion arrangements. Provides mentorship and guidance to other junior engineers, designers or subcontractors in the areas of naval architecture and structural design. Develops and/or reviews design documents for fisheries, icebreaking and naval vessels in order to achieve customer, Classification Society and regulatory approval. Performs trade studies both formal and informal to determine the most cost-effective solutions to engineering problems and meet material budgets for systems assigned. Identifies opportunities to reduce material costs below budget. Represents the company to industry to develop understanding of Seaspan's involvement in the National Shipbuilding Strategy and continue to build our reputation.

What you'll bring

Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture is required. 8 or more years' post-secondary experience working in Naval Architecture. Previous concept design experience is an asset. Experience with CFD tools is an asset. Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset. Professional Engineering designation in the Province of British Columbia.

The estimated salary for this position is $119,700 - $146,300. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
