Are you an experienced electrical engineer with a passion for designing and managing transportation electrical systems that make a real impact across Ontario?



We're seeking a strong technical leader with expertise in areas such as roadway lighting, traffic signals, and electrical program planning who can guide complex projects and help modernize the province's transportation network.




As part of the Electrical Engineering Delivery office (EEDO) -- the Ministry's Centre of Excellence -- you will play a key role in in-house design, capital planning, asset management, staff technical development, policy development, and standards modernization. Our portfolio spans:



Highway lighting and high-mast pole systems Traffic signal systems EV charging infrastructure Ferry docks, movable bridges, and remote airport power systems Power distribution and electrical systems

In this role, you will:



Provide in-house electrical engineering design services, and supervise, support and evaluate the activities of in-house engineering design staff and professional engineering services providers Provide project management, leadership, technical and administrative direction for the planning, design and coordination of multiple, concurrent transportation related electrical infrastructure projects Provide expert technical advice and support on electrical infrastructure and policy matters Participate or lead in the development of new policies, procedures, and standards for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements



You currently have accreditation as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian Province or Territory, and you will obtain a Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) license as a condition of accepting this position. You possess a valid driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the province of Ontario.

Technical Knowledge:




You will have:

Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, standards and related legislation/regulations of electrical engineering with relevance to the design, construction and maintenance of roadway lighting, traffic signals, and power distribution systems Knowledge of and/or ability to interpret procedures, standards, guidelines, practices, legislation and regulations relevant to the design, construction and maintenance of highway lighting, traffic signals, and power distribution systems Knowledge of economic analysis methods including design cost, construction cost, maintenance cost, benefit-cost, and life-cycle cost assessments for program planning and prioritization of corridor needs Ability to operate and manipulate computer software for the purposes of engineering and operational design, design simulation/modelling and using computer-aided design (CAD) software packages Knowledge of computer applications (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation), to prepare briefing notes, reports, recommendations, correspondences, and to create/update asset management inventory and file management systems Familiarity with existing and emerging electrical and electronic technology (e.g. lighting, power generation)

Leadership, Project Management and Organizational Skills:




You have:

Demonstrated ability to direct and coordinate multi-disciplined project teams in the design and preparation of construction contracts Demonstrated the ability to provide project management, leadership, technical and administrative direction for the planning, design and coordination of multiple, concurrent transportation related electrical infrastructure projects.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:




You have the ability to:

Define issues, determine and assess alternatives and generate solutions Assess quantitative and qualitative information

Interpersonal, Communications and Negotiation Skills:




You have:

Interpersonal and negotiation skills to establish working relationships with and to negotiate agreements with internal and external stakeholders Written and oral communication skills to prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations Ability to work independently or as part of a team
