Role Overview





The Senior Electrical & Mechanical Project Manager provides senior technical and project leadership across Urbacon's construction within the ICI and mission-critical construction portfolio -- including hyperscale data centres, institutional facilities, and complex infrastructure projects.



This role demands an experienced professional with 15+ years of progressive experience in mechanical and electrical systems delivery within a construction management, design-bid-build (stipulated sum) or design-build environment, holding a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation or Master Electrician (ME) designation.

Key Responsibilities




Technical



Act as Urbacon's senior technical authority for all mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems, guiding design development, constructability, and execution strategy. Review and validate consultant drawings, specifications, and performance criteria to ensure compliance with code and client requirements. Lead value-engineering initiatives and system optimization efforts to improve efficiency, resilience, and life-cycle performance. Oversee integration of electrical, mechanical, and automation systems with architectural, structural, and civil components. Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, energy-efficiency strategies, and mission-critical innovations.



Project Execution & Management




Manage the full lifecycle of M&E scopes on large-scale ICI and data-centre projects from preconstruction through turnover. Provide design-assistance for M&E equipment. Assist in developing scopes of work, tender packages, bid analyses, and contract recommendations for all M&E trades. Oversee project schedules and long-lead equipment tracking, ensuring timely procurement, delivery, and commissioning. Provide technical oversight during installation, testing, and commissioning plan development. Lead or participate in factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), to support commissioning planning. Lead and/or work with the project commissioning agent to complete project commissioning by ensuring project specific commissioning requirements (Level 1-5) are met and follow with complete integrated systems commissioning (IST). Conduct design and field reviews, ensuring compliance with Urbacon's QA/QC procedures and safety standards. Support MOP (Method of Procedure) documentation for live environments.



Risk, Quality & Compliance




Identify and mitigate technical, schedule, and coordination risks throughout design and construction. Conduct gap analyses on consultant and trade designs; issue RFI's where required. Liaise with authorities having jurisdiction (ESA, TSSA, municipal utilities) for permitting, inspections, and approvals. Prepare and review commissioning reports, as-built documentation, and system manuals. Manage all applications for energy rebates, sustainability incentives, and public-funded efficiency programs. Serve as Urbacon's technical representative to clients, consultants, and trade partners. Communicate design intent, system functionality, and progress clearly across all project stakeholders.

Help enforce Urbacon's health and safety standards with a Mechanical and Electrical focus on all job sites, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Ensure construction quality aligns with design intent, specifications, and industry best practices.



Candidate Qualifications




Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or Mechanical), or equivalent technical diploma. Professional designation: P.Eng. (Professional Engineers Ontario), Certified Engineering Technician (C.E.T.) or Master Electrician (ME) designation (ESA). Experience working within Electrical or Mechanical Subcontractors is highly valued and welcome. Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in M&E project delivery within the ICI or mission-critical construction sector. Proven success managing large, complex, fast-track or retrofit projects in occupied or sensitive environments. Maintaining a valid Ontario class "G" driver's license and having access to a vehicle for the purpose of performing duties. Excellent computer skills and experience with software programs for project management, planning, time management and contracts. Good grasp of code compliance (CSA, ASHRAE, NFPA, ESA)

Location & Commitments




Head Office:

Urbacon, 750 Lake Shore Blvd East, Toronto -

5 days a week

Frequent travel to active project sites and client facilities across Ontario and Canada. Site-based deployment may be required for major data centre or ICI builds. * Regular business hours with extended hours flexibility required to meet project-specific scheduling needs for fast-track projects.
