LSI's Research, Accountability and Intergovernmental Affairs Division, part of the department's Corporate Policy & Services Branch, works to advance evidence-based decision making across the department and beyond. This includes analyzing and communicating labour market data and issues, supporting program evaluation and accountability, and advising on intergovernmental relations.

About Our Opportunity

As the Senior Economist you will provide critical specialized analysis and advice to support the provision of quality labour market information products and services to external stakeholders (to inform education, career, business and community development decisions) and to internal stakeholders (to inform policy and program decisions which address labour market and skill development challenges and opportunities for Nova Scotia).

The Labour Market Research and Analysis Unit is part of the Research, Accountability and Intergovernmental Affairs Division which works to enable evidence-based decision making and service excellence across the department. The division offers expertise in labour market research, data collection, policy analysis, performance measurement, evaluation and intergovernmental relations.

As the Senior Economist, you will report to the Manager, Labour Market Research and Analysis.

Qualifications and Experience

This may be the right experience for you if you have a bachelor's degree in Economics, or a related discipline, plus five years' experience conducting research, statistical analysis, or related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Your demonstrated abilities, acquired through academics and/or work, includes excellent research and analytical skills, understanding of economics and in particular, labour economics, expertise in policy and program development, ability to incorporate information from a variety of sources, identify trends and effectively synthesize information, knowledge of data collection and survey methodologies, experience managing projects and overseeing the work of external consultants.

You have a proven capability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of contacts, including an ability to communicate and/or negotiate effectively and adapt style and content to diverse target audiences. You are well organized, have a strategic orientation, take initiative, demonstrate superior written and presentation skills, and a commitment to excellence.

You must have knowledge and experience with the use of computer software for data analysis and presentation such as statistical and econometric software, STATA or SAS, database software, graphical presentation software, spreadsheet, Word.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Salary Range: $2,666.69 - $3,250.64 Bi-Weekly
