About Our Opportunity
This is an exciting time for the Public Health Branch in Nova Scotia - we are growing the Public Health Surveillance team and looking for highly skilled and experienced epidemiologists to help enhance and expand the scope of our provincial Public Health Surveillance system. In addition to having the good fortune to live in Canada\'s ocean playground and work with an amazing group of colleagues, as the Senior Epidemiologist you will have the opportunity to lead the planning, design, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of high quality public health surveillance systems for Nova Scotia.
Primary Accountabilities
As an expert in surveillance methodology, you will lead and conduct advanced analytics projects related to communicable disease, non-communicable disease and population health assessment. Your analysis, advice and insight will inform senior leaders and key stakeholders within the health system. You will translate data into meaningful knowledge, have the chance to mentor others and to demonstrate how essential epidemiology is to public health practice. The work that you and your fellow epidemiologists do will guide policy, programs and priority planning across the Nova Scotia Public Health branch. You can take pride that your work will contribute to monitoring, promoting and protecting the health of Nova Scotians.
Qualifications and Experience
As the successful candidate, you have a bachelor\'s degree in a health profession/science/social science and 7 years of related experience; or Master\'s Degree in Epidemiology and 5 years of related experience.
You have content expertise in public health surveillance as well as excellent skills in carrying out all facets of the surveillance cycle from data acquisition to dissemination and communication. Demonstrated expertise is required in areas related to surveillance methodologies, statistical analysis, advanced analytical techniques, and dissemination of information.
A high degree of leadership and innovation is required, along with excellence in communication, strong partnership and collaboration skills and the ability to lead and work in teams.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
