Job Description

The Senior Director of Partnerships and Development is a leader, motivator and part of the senior management team, working in collaboration with the artsvest Senior Director and the President & CEO on the overall strategic direction and management of Business / Arts. Knowledgeable about the arts sector and fundraising in Canada, the Senior Director of Partnerships and Development is comfortable stewarding current relationships with our business partners, government funders, board members and donors and developing new partnerships while collaborating on the management of the finances and operations of the organization.

Their duties will include but are not limited to the following key focus areas:

  • Private Sector Partnership Development and Stewardship: Lead and implement a fundraising plan that incorporates all Business / Arts programs and initiatives; manage existing and new partnerships, sponsorship and donors; oversee activation and fulfillment of all partnerships and spearhead fundraising events.
  • Public Sector Partnership Development and Stewardship: Develop and maintain strong relationships with Canadian Heritage, provincial and regional partners for the artsvest program; cultivate new funder relationships and develop funding applications for artsvest and other programs; with Senior Management manage the filing and reporting processes for all grants and funders
  • Strategic Planning and Development: Collaborate with Senior Management on strategic planning by identifying needs and opportunities for programs and initiatives within the sector and corresponding public and private sector funding sources
  • Logistics and Program Management: Collaborate with the B/A Communications and Event team to monitor work back schedules, manage event and project logistics, partners activation and communications roll-out.
  • HR and Governance: Collaborate with Senior Management on HR strategy, recruitment, hiring and team management; steward and support various Board committees and attend Board meetings.
  • Finances and Operations: Collaborate with Senior Management and Accountant to develop and manage organizational and individual program budgets and forecasts for Canadian Arts Summit, the Business / Arts Awards, artsvest, Boardlink, Speaker Series and other programs, as well as core operating budget and cash flows.

Requirements: As a national ambassador and champion for the arts and cultural sectors, the ideal candidate will have/be:
  • A strong spokesperson and advocate for the arts with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Significant knowledge of and experience working with Canada's not-for-profit arts, culture and heritage communities.
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent knowledge and experience in the arts & culture or business sectors, especially in fundraising and sponsorship development.
  • A proven track record of securing sponsorships and partnerships and managing their activation is essential.
  • Experience developing and writing public sector grant applications and managing public sector stakeholders relationships.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience with scheduling and time-sensitive projects and the ability to work collaboratively with a team on a variety of projects, special events and fundraising campaigns.
  • Strong financial management skills, ability to plan and manage budgets and experience working with accountants and knowledge of Quickbooks.
  • Professional and personable nature with a strong aptitude for managing a variety of stakeholder relationships including donors, sponsors, funders, board members, advisors and volunteers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to nurture trusting, open relationships that encourage learning and participation; brings sound judgment, tact and diplomacy in working with others.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and proven commitment to the values of equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail and an ability to multi-task and manage tasks within a hybrid working environment.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as in a team setting, with strong skills in Google Workspace, MS Office, Zoom, Keela, Asana and other project management and fundraising systems.
  • Ability to speak in both official languages is an asset but not required
