What is the opportunity?




In this role, you will report to the Head, RBC Origins to play a critical leadership role in shaping RBC's Indigenous banking policies, ensuring they align with regulatory frameworks, reconciliation commitments, and risk considerations. You will have direct accountability for executing RBC's Commercial Indigenous Banking policies, while also partnering with other lines of business (LOBs) to influence and advance broader policy change. You will influence governance structures, enable cross-functional decision-making, and advocate for policies that create equitable financial access for Indigenous clients.


What will you do?



Lead RBC's Indigenous banking policy strategy, ensuring policies support accessible, inclusive, and sustainable financial products for Indigenous clients Ensure Indigenous banking policies align with federal, provincial, and Indigenous legal frameworks, including land tenure laws, tax exemptions, and governance structures Advance policy solutions that address systemic barriers stemming from the Indian Act, helping dismantle financial access issues for Indigenous clients Partner with business units and functions to ensure policies enable effective product offerings while managing regulatory (i.e., OSFI) and reputational risks Develop and deepen external partnerships and represent RBC in policy discussions with Indigenous governments, regulatory bodies, Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB), and other industry partners to shape banking policies that meet Indigenous client needs Continue to evolve and serve as a subject matter expert on loan guarantee programs, supporting both execution and advisory functions across RBC Engage in joint strategy development with the Manager, Policy Support to ensure policies align with product design to support accessibility, compliance, and financial inclusion Build strong partnerships and collaborate cross-functionally with Commercial Banking Credit, Group Risk Management (GRM), and OneRBC partners to support consistent policy execution and alignment across the enterprise Define KPIs and measurement frameworks to track the effectiveness of Indigenous banking policies and their impact on RBC's reconciliation commitments Engage with cross-functional stakeholders to stay informed on new ideas and potential products, ensuring the policy team can proactively update policies as needed to support implementation and execution

What do you need to succeed?



Must-have:



Bachelor's degree in law, public policy, business, economics, finance, Indigenous studies, or a related field Expert knowledge of Indigenous legal, economic, and governance structures, along with a deep understanding of federal and provincial regulatory frameworks impacting Indigenous banking Experience in complex commercial lending, regulatory compliance and risk management including exposure to Indigenous banking or economic development, private equity, FinTech, loan syndications Cross-functional leadership experience, collaborating with business lines to develop policy strategies and manage regulatory and reputational risks Strong relationship-building skills and stakeholder engagement, including working with Indigenous governments, regulatory bodies, and industry partners Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, negotiation and advocacy skills to influence policy decisions Proven experience in strategic prioritization, ensuring focus on high-impact policy opportunities

Nice to have:



Master's degree in business administration law (JD/LLM), or a related discipline Board governance and leadership experience
