The Role
As a Senior Development Platform Developer, you will establish, refine and own the release process for Geotechnical Analysis desktop and cloud products. You will also work with modern cloud technologies to build the Internal Development Platform for Evo (Seequent's geoscience data and compute platform), enhancing the Developer Experience for various engineering teams across Seequent. This role requires close collaboration with development teams, who will be your main stakeholders, and you will also be mentoring more junior members of the team. The Lead Development Developer and the Geotechnical Analysis engineering leadership will direct you on priorities to deliver successful business outcomes for Seequent.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Develop, maintain and enhance building, packaging, testing, and release of the Geotechnical Analysis cloud and desktop products
Take ownership of the Geotechnical Analysis build and release process by working closely with various stakeholders
Migrate on-prem infrastructure to the cloud
Manage systems using Infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and Configuration-as-code (CaC)
Ensure build and release infrastructure is modern and secure
Build an Internal Development Platform using modern cloud technologies that conceals infrastructural complexity, allowing developers to deploy microservices easily and quickly
Contribute to strategic decisions affecting the development of the Internal Development Platform
Negotiate and solve technical challenges with Senior Developers, Leads, and Architects
Lead demos that show how the team is reducing cognitive load on developers
Collaborate with a development pod or pods to understand build and release priorities
Maintain high documentation standards to allow knowledge distribution throughout the team
Adeptly communicate asynchronously through tickets and communication tools
Mentor and coach more junior members of the team, guiding them through technical challenges with compassion and patience
Provide technical leadership that helps guide the team when making key decisions on cloud tooling
Foster a strong DevOps culture throughout the organization
Develop an expertise in multiple areas of services that the team provides to internal customers like Development pods
To be successful in this role, you should have:
A keen interest to learn new cloud-based technologies
Ability to operate as a coach and mentor to more junior members of the team
Ability to discuss technical details with peers and more senior colleagues confidently
Motivated to work to a high standard and ensure others are working to the same high standards
Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and build sustainable working relationships
The ability to be persistent, patient, innovative, and work in a fast paced and constantly changing environment.
Absolute discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive work
In addition, the following technical qualifications, experience, and skills set are required:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent
7 years working in build and cloud infrastructure engineering roles
Advanced knowledge of Python
Advanced knowledge of the following tools: Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform
Proficiency with CI/CD Pipelines (i.e. Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Gitlab, etc.)
Experience working with cloud providers like Google Cloud Platform, Azure, and AWS
Additional Information
Hybrid-based working environment, work from our Calgary, Canada office two or more days per week.
