We are seeking an experienced Database Planning and Delivery specialist to evaluate current state, identify the appropriate path forward, and implement solutions for our Edmonton government client. You will be responsible for building, maintaining, and performance tuning production databases to ensure optimal data availability and performance. Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise in database management systems to support systems development and operational activities.
  • Create and maintain the logical and physical structures of databases and related structures required by database applications.
  • Monitor database applications, databases and DBMS statistics and make the appropriate changes to improve performance.
  • Maintain database authorization requirements.
  • Maintain and enforce database security standards and procedures.
  • Evaluate application and user requirements and make appropriate database modifications.
  • Provide technical expertise to development teams, Application Maintenance Services and business teams.
  • Perform troubleshooting activities for database problems, database software problems and database application problems.
  • Perform DBMS software installations, plan and test upgrades.
  • Plan, test and implement software patches and application updates or upgrades.
  • Disaster recovery preparation and testing.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Develop and automate system related procedures.
  • Perform problem diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Monitor on-going operations and perform on-going system administration tasks: release new versions; database tuning; capacity planning; historical archiving; database consistency and integrity checking; log file analysis; job scheduling; scripting; indexes; reorganizations; change control; and server requirements analysis.
  • Plan, configure and test database backup and test recovery to both on disk and to tape.
Qualifications
Mandatory Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree or diploma in IT, Computer Science, Math or Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 7 years of DBA experience within an environment of similar size and complexity of Government of Alberta.
  • 7 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or higher.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Ability to learn quickly, problem solve, troubleshoot, work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage stress and conflict.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, management and vendors.
  • 7 years of experience troubleshooting execution and performance issues within Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or higher.
  • 7 years of eperience with Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 or higher.
  • 7 years of experience working in an enterprise architect environment.
  • 7 years of experience working in an environment where the work is delivered through a ticket or email.
  • 7 years of experience with Oracle Internet Directory OID and Data Domain is desirable.
  • 7 years of experience with RMAN for point in time recovery.
  • 7 years of experience utilizing Oracle Enterprise Manager OEM with Oracles Diagnostic and Tuning packs.
