What you'll be doing
As a Senior Consultant, Database Infrastructure & Cloud Platforms you will join CIBC's Cloud Engineering and Transformation team, providing technical leadership in infrastructure design, best practices, and standards to implement enterprise-level PostgreSQL and Oracle database capabilities. In this role, you will be responsible for deploying and securing PostgreSQL and Oracle databases, implementing high availability solutions, managing backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes, as well as managing upgrades, patching, and automation activities. You will also provide third-level support as required. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work with PostgreSQL in Kubernetes/OpenShift clusters and within the Azure cloud environment. Your experience with Oracle databases will be a valuable asset to our talented, multi-disciplinary database engineering team. You will embrace Agile methodologies in both project delivery and day-to-day activities. You're flexible to support occasional after-hours support as part of shared, low-frequency on-call rotation, primarily during high-severity incidents.

How you'll succeed

• Leadership & Communication - Assess business needs, technology options, and security requirements to deliver practical database solutions that strengthen business performance. Collaborate with senior leaders to provide informed recommendations and support business proposals with feasibility assessments and technical expertise. Lead the evaluation, selection, design, and implementation of new and emerging Database technologies.
• Partnership & Governance - Partner with platform owners, product owners, and solution architects to deliver and manage database services. Proactively contribute to governance initiatives in the development of database related policies, audit requirements etc. Work closely with application teams, support groups, and security team to ensure production readiness and reliable operations.
• Database Engineering & Support - Design, build, and manage Database platforms and their ecosystem to support large-scale, mission-critical applications. Oversee the platform lifecycle, including roadmap, upgrades, decommissions, and alignment with strategic objectives. Leverage Oracle expertise to support strategic planning and migrations from Oracle to PostgreSQL. Maintain standard images, hardened configurations, and accurate internal database management records.
• Container & Cloud - Support both open-source and EDB PostgreSQL including container technologies. Coordinate with CaaS, cloud engineering teams, and vendors to deliver containerized solutions and adopt cloud transformation initiatives. You have strong knowledge of high availability and replication patterns, backup/restore processes, and disaster recovery testing; experience with tools such as pg_dump, pg_basebackup, and Barman. Experience deploying and operating EDB PostgreSQL EFM for automated failover, as well as ecosystem tools like Pgpool.

Who you are

• You can demonstrate 5 + years of experience in: PostgreSQL in production, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, performance tuning, and advanced troubleshooting in mission-critical environments. Practical experience running PostgreSQL in Kubernetes and cloud/Azure environments, including persistent storage, networking, and observability. Architecture and solution design expertise supporting scalability, reliability, and security for enterprise-grade applications. Demonstrated success in planning and implementing migrations from Oracle and/or SQL Server to PostgreSQL. It's an asset if you have familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/9 administration and security. Working knowledge of database and infrastructure integration. Experience with Rubrik for backup, restore, and disaster recovery. Working knowledge of automation and DevOps tools like Ansible, GitHub, Artifactory and Agile methodologies an infrastructure-as-code approach is preferred.
