Your Opportunity:The Senior Consultant, Capacity and Flow performs a leadership role in the Suburban Hospitals Edmonton Zone (SHEZ) portfolio, which includes 6 hospitals in the Edmonton Zone (Devon General Hospital, Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital, Leduc Community Hospital, Northeast Community Health Centre, Strathcona Community Hospital, and WestView Health Centre). This position is responsible and accountable for effectively and efficiently monitoring site capacity activity, and through working with site wide teams, guide patient access and throughput in the system. The Senior Consultant, Capacity and Flow also provides leadership and support in identifying, developing, and implementing initiatives to meet the goals of capacity management planning across the Zone.Description:The Senior Consultant, Capacity and Flow will be a decision maker within bed management protocols and staffing guidelines and to follow them through. Participation in the on-call structure is a requirement and the successful candidate may be required to adjust their schedule to accommodate occasional weekend and evening shifts. The Senior Consultant, Capacity and Flow will be required to work closely with staff and physicians from all programs and services within the SHEZ portfolio, EZ Integrated Operations Center, as well as various other AHS Zone personnel to successfully coordinate patient access to zone and SHEZ site inpatient beds, patient transfers for admission, or medical consultations. Using the guidance of bed management protocols, staffing guidelines, consultant protocols, infection control guidelines, medical necessity criteria and service/unit admission discharge criteria the Capacity and Flow Manager works with team members to organize and coordinate safe patient throughput. The Senior Consultant, Capacity and Flow is subject to operational/budget constraints that affect limits in bed availability (i.e. critical care areas unable to staff all beds available, chartering flights for out of regional patients, staffing shortages). These scenarios all limit bed unit capacity.

Required Qualifications:Current College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) registration. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider registration required. Five (5) years of experience in a complex acute care hospital setting. Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial role required.
