Join the Nexwsye?tsem Communications and Engagement Department as a Senior Communications Specialist. This position is vital in supporting the Squamish Nation by leading strategic communications that align with our values, brand standards, and organizational goals. You will play a central role in developing communications strategies, guiding a talented team, and ensuring the reputation and advancement of the Sk?wx?wu7mesh Uxwumixw are upheld with integrity and excellence.
What You'll Do

Collaborate with the Communications & Engagement Manager to develop strategic communications strategies and respond to communications requests.
Oversee day-to-day communications work, delegating tasks, prioritizing projects, and monitoring quality against editorial and graphic standards.
Lead the development of content and messaging across diverse platforms, including digital, print, and social media.
Provide expert advice on communications protocols, issues management, and strategy to team members, staff, and contractors.
Build and maintain strong relationships with department leads, Council office, and external partners.
Ensure cultural considerations are central to all communications strategies and outputs.
Share best practices in writing, editing, and content development while mentoring and guiding team members.
Provide and manage confidential, sensitive information with tact, discretion, and professionalism.
What We're Looking For

Degree in communications, marketing, journalism, political science, public relations, or a related field.
Progressive experience as a Communication Specialist in a complex organization (government or Indigenous environment preferred).
Proven expertise in content development, writing, editing, and message design for diverse audiences.
Experience with social media strategy and tools, WordPress, Microsoft Office, and workflow platforms (e.g., Monday.com).
Strong ability to prioritize, collaborate, and delegate in a fast-paced environment.

Salary:
$75,000 - $112,500
Candidates are typically offered compensation between the beginning to the midpoint of the range. We are committed to providing a fair and equitable package that reflects the value an individual brings to the organization.
